Great Weapon Fighter buffs still not enough

tarnisradtarnisrad Member Posts: 12 Arc User
The Great Weapon Fighter still falls far behind the offensively specced Guardian Fighter in every facet of gameplay. Even after these buffs my Guardian Fighter enjoys lower cooldowns, higher damage, higher survivability, higher utility, and higher control over my Great Weapon Fighter.

Power provides the worst return per point investment for the GWF than any other class making it nigh useless. To add insult to injury we have a bunch of garbage feats with power components that pale in comparison to the other fighter class who actually benefits from power.

For comparison sake the Guardian Fighter can have a power boost that scales up to 100% with remaining block meter. The Great Weapon Fighter can get a 50% boost only when his team-mates take damage and he as the offtank avoids being hit all-together (How does this even make sense thematically?) Not only is the Guardian Fighter's feat just better, it's actually applicable to more than just PvE. In PvP the Great Weapon Fighter will never maintain more than a 10% boost on a stat that doesn't even really benefit him.

Frontline Surge and Bull's Charge have CC components and do more damage than Indomitable Battle Strike.
Lunge offers huge mobility has a six second cooldown with feats/light recovery investment and does more damage than Indomitable Battle strike.

Cleave does twice the damage of every Great Weapon Fighter at-will and does not have damage drop/target.

Why does the GWF have sets with no crit on them but 'when you crit' components on the set bonuses? Who in their right mind made that decision? Meanwhile, Guardian Fighters can bask in 25% of their maximum health pool being converted into power making a tanking set the most viable DPS set.

I really want to use my GWF over my GF, but when it feels like I'm playing with a handicap I just can't bring myself to do it. A 20% boost to our at-wills and a 1.1 second CD reduction on skills nobody even uses isn't going to cut it. A rework of the DPS feats, proper stat scaling, and actual thought behind itemization are the only real options to put this class on an even playing field.

I support this <Devil May Cry> based initiative, it's good for the game, it's good for the economy; and it's being proposed by a man as handsome as I am.

GWF needs more AoE damage and lower ST damage, while GF as a defender class shouldnt do the amount of damage they do now, toping damage dealt in dungeons

Try playing the class as it was designed ot be played.....Off Tank. Your job is to pull Agro off the Cleric and make his job easier.....i.e. being a team player. Might I suggest if you want to DPS play a Rogue.

Now I havn't been able to test threat or agro management but I full intend to do so soon.

My Guardian Fighter does everything better. Try being a team player and supporting an underpowered class being put onto an even playing field.

How can you agro with the great weapon fighter? Just attack whoever is attacking the cleric? That keeps you out of what the greatweapon fighter is suppose to do - go berserk on the big baddie. And why should the rogue be a better fighter than the fighter? In every instance I am teamed up the rogue is up front with the great weapon fighter and doing more damage than the fighter. The rogue is suppose to be sneaky and stand back doing ranged damage or backstab from time to time, not out fight a fighter.

The only way to get good dps out of a GWF is to stack armor pen. Its completely HAMSTER seeing how all our T2 dps gear gives more power than anything else. What the op said is 100% correct, this class has the worst itemization in the game. Power should scale way better than it does. It is pretty much useless. So if you want good dps with a gwf stack armor pen and crit. Otherwise playing an off tank is the only other option. Still not a very good one IMO.

Sad but true. That "buff" is almost an insult to every single player still sticking with the class (haven't seen a single GWF in t2 in more than 2 weeks). Why would you bring a GWF with you when every other class can outperform you in every aspect whether that's dmg or utility. Unless they actually take a good loot at the numbers and actually buff encounters aswell it won't matter how much they reduce the cd on them. Why does a tank do more dmg than bis geared GWF? Makes no sense at all.

I've crit as high as 20k with indiminable battle strike which is our hardest hitting ability while rogues enjoy 20k+ bleed ticks ... So basically they can go afk after they stack the bleed and still outdps you ggwp. (10k GS with stone and ancient 2h/knot)

you are all just baddies rofl, true GWF is more gear dependent than others but once you get the right gear you are almost impossible to kill 1v1 and you can pretty much tank 1v2 1v3.

My friend which has the best gear on server IMO, reaches 37k hp, hits like a truck (you shud know why) and is impossible to kill 1v1.

not to mention he can just run across CN like its nothing.

AND NOW HES GETTING A BUFF. and then I come and see you baddies complain rofl, if the patch nerfs my char too much (wiz) im going to roll a gwf since they are the most OP chars after the patch.

I can't tell if this is a good attempt at trolling or if you're serious but if you are serious, care to enlighten the rest of us what this friend of yours is wearing and what spec he is because I would love to be as awesome as he is.

It's pretty easy to figure out why he hits so hard. He has cheap tank gear which gives him a lot of HP and slotted greater tenebrous enchants to hit like a truck, since it's based off of your health.

Yeah, greater tenebrous enchantments on a GWF are very OP. Met some GWF with that in PvP. He shred me in about 2-3 secs. But hey, GWFs are too weak /facepalm.

    They are.

Tene's are just powerful. Just because they have an item that is granting huge (probably unintended) bonuses doesn't mean it's a solid class.

So I have been playing my GWF for a bit and from what I can see Op is right they do need to be changed a bit. I would like to see Battle fury's buff extended and cd decreased beyond the first rank. Something like 1s/1s or 2/2 per point beyond the first, its only a 5 second buff and with the talent and the new change its not a long enough up time vs down time 15 sec CD 5 sec up you wont even notice it giving more AP unless you actually kill a mob with IDS. Daring shout really .... you loose the mitigation debuff if they hit you but its heavily linked to the tanking tree... meaning they will probably hit you... So why is it even there? The aoe encounters all seem feeble damage wise, same with the at -will's. Come and Get it yields a 1 strike buff of 30% every 15 sec other than keeping things in the kill zone I don't really see a use for that. Slam can not crit and Deep gash can not crit.

I've only reached lvl 46 with my GWF, so I don't know how things will be later.

But I find the GWF can be quite the trickster if his abilities and strategy is right. In the beginning it required some precision, now I have more AoE abilities and have experimented a little with running into a hoard of monsters slashing away.

Side note: I'm new to MMO, and mostly a console gamer. I actually miss my keys occassionally ._. ._.

But I'm still worried about the GWF becomming too powerful at some point. When he uses unstoppable he gets reduced damage and can't be stunned. Combined with a couple of stun Encounters, I have managed to kill quite a few wizards and rouges 1on1. (Those are usually the ones I try to take out first). A few levels ago, I was even 1st top score, being the only GWF out of 10 players.

Of course, usually those scores favours those HAMSTER who come to a tower with one or two team mates already there and just stays there instead of conquring other towers ._.

Totally a side note. But now that I'm the first to leave when we are two at an empty tower or when I'm fighting and suddenly we are 3 to 1, my score tend to be low. My team usually wins 5on5 (I think), though. The important thing is to capture towers, not kills. So yeah, the score thing can be very misleading. Though, I've also met very good carriers who score high.

My point is, I'm not particularly good, but I still manage to do a ok job with the GWF. Which means good players would probably be awesome with this class.

I think the majority will look to damage stats and such to determine if a class is good. And thus we have a reputation that the GWF is bad as it doesn't always score good on damage.

Of course, in some aspects, the GWF probably does suck.

Something that would be interesting is if instead of the classes being 100% "balanced", they would work in a slight paper- scissor- rock manner. Which would make PvPs more dependent on a class diversity. Of course, a rock could still outdo the paper if having the skills. Again, I'm new, so this might actually be the idea.

When I die in PvP or PvE it's because I made a very newcomer ( the word n-o-b is sensored XD) mistake. Like hitting 4 instead of 3, or hitting caps lock instead of shift .___.

I usually like the more challenging game, so if the GWF is slightly under the other classes, that would be fine with me.

Of course I realize that the game can't base classes on what is fine by me. I'm just saying, winning or doing a good job in dungeon or PvP becomes so much more rewarding when you know the odds were against you. It's exhilirating. Also, rushing into mobs and kick those asses are amazing fun as well. Teamed with experienced players who know exactly when to push the enemies away from you, it's pure bliss.

I also think you learn more harshly when dying a few times. The Mad Dragon opened my eyes to a different way to play the GWF.

If other players drop the class... Well, I'd actually enjoy a dungeon with 5 GWF because the dynamic and strategies would be very interesting to observe, even if we'd get sooooo wiped.

Well, I'm one of those who are in it purely because of the fun. I don't get angry when I die a lot, I get motivated to do a getter job next time. I enjoy that part where the good wizard killed you yet again while you were stunned helpless. If I spend one and a half hour on a dungeon where we can't take down the boss, I still had fun playing in the moment.

Well, I don't really tend to die a lot, unless I'm going for the distraction. My sprint can usually get me out of trouble if I so desire.

Rrrr. I just installed chrome, so I don't have a spellchecker here. Also, I had beer. I hope it's still readable.

@m1nuend: The problem that GWFs have generally aren't PvP-related. I feel like that they are fine in PvP but in PvE, they lack many things to keep them competitive with other classes. Also, PvP changes pretty dramatically lvl 50+ because of the skills that other classes get. GWF's lvl 50 skills seem to lack any sort of "oomph", granted that IBS and Crescendo does a decent chunk of damage, it's no where close to what other classes get.

gwf was first class i leveled and even low health mobs could take a bit wipe out.then,i rolled a cw,and blew up same mobs 15ft away in one hit.cw is not a AoE striker class from my little knowledge of dnd.the gwf AoE damage is just too weak.IBS has some decent burst if you combo it correctly, but it don't have a huge amount of range.

@m1nuend: Good you enjoy the class. :) Keep playing.

But the problem is not the class, although it has some glaring problems when it comes to design purpose, and skills. Such as AoE dmg reduction for an AoE class? Making the AoE's hit for next to nothing if you are not Instigator specd.

I'm hopeing we will get our design fleshed out. So that:

    Destroyer is Single-target DD,
    Instigator is AoE DD,
    and
Sentinel is Tank. No, not off-tank. Since that should be our whole class theme anyways.

But the real problems lie elsewhere. It's the general mechanics of the game. And the cleric class.
CW and DC have KBs that themselves kill the game. Making it a cheese-fest.
And DC is, atm, broken in such a way. That using two is by far the best option. And after the Balance patch. Will most likely still be best in pair. And since the KB is not addressed, and our class is not fleshed out atm. We still have no place in a end-game group.
Sure, it is possible in a guild. But that's it. People don't like to have fun in the moment wen it comes to PuG's. They just want it done, like a chore. HAMSTER I know, but here speed is king. And a GWF slows everything down.

But keep at it. Since these problems are so obvious, and the dev. team actually read feedback/care about the game, it will be fixed down the line. And you will be one of the few experienced GWF's ^^ -.... In 6 month time ;p.
