GF Block and the Grey Wolf Den Boss

During the last boss encounter in the Grey Wolf Den instance, I'm finding Block to be either broken, or almost completely useless. And with no dodge, this encounter is tremendously unfun for my GF. He's too slow to get out of the AOE, and too frail to take the kind of damage that Block fails to protect him from.

Anyone else find this encounter just craptastic to "tank"?

Watch and learn boss animations and attack rotations. There are normally tells of what big attack is coming next like a charge up animation prior to the red circle.

Tanks don't tank bosses because red circles are glitchtastic for block. Block is, by leaps and bounds, the absolute worst class skill in the game even when it works perfectly. Maybe some bosses are just designed for Rogues to tank? Like, all of them? Not sure, since I have yet to see a GF 'tank' effectively, especially in Grey Wolf Den. It's always the Rogue tanking the boss, in every instance I've done.

Then you play with bad GFs. GF can tank boss just fine and debuff boss so Rogue does more damage.

I've played with good GF. I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but yes I have seen one good GF out of the dozens I've played with. That is a HAMSTER poor sample size, but it doesn't bode well.

Of course, it's about the same story with GWF when I'm playing my rogue. Honestly that's the main reason I rolled a second character, I wanted to see GWF from the outside, and boy it doesn't look good. I'm sure it's about the same for GF.

I assume you know that you have to point your shield towards the center of the red circle in order to actually block it.

Block is glitched... Also GFs can be good "tanks" however since Cryptics idea of challenge = more adds, typically a group is more or less forced to only have 1 person DPS bosses while the other deal with adds meaning you put highest single target DPS on a boss which is.... drumroll.................. a rogue!

If they made boss fights interesting versus pure mob spam, or even reduced the mob SIZE to even 1 ultra hard "elite" then it would give incentive for the rogue to DPS the add and return to the boss...

From what I have seen, there is a HUGE dis connect between a GFs roll in the group (made by the design of the dungeon itself and adds) and the gear that GFs get... Most gear is for "tanking" while there really is no need to "tank" Just have 4 dps and 1 healer and your good to go! Heck even a GF doesnt tank, they just do good DPS which is why some who can dps are useful...

I'm thinking it could also be lag issues. I can't count the number of times I've blocked a slow hitting mob, then lunged at it for some extra dps, then put block up, and still get creamed through the block - as if the block wasn't even there. Happens all the friggin time, so that atm I have no confidence in its working properly.

@drogon4: There is your mistake right there. Lunging and then trying to reblock is the number 1 way to have the block bug not function. Also even after their adustments in the upcoming patch it still does this. When you Bull's, Lunge or Threatening rush you have to wait a full second for the block ICD to tick away before hitting block or it bugs out. This is made even worse when you have lag.

This I'll wager is his issue.

When blocking back up slightly so that the center of the red splat is infront of you, then you'll block it. You dont have to move out of it (its better if you can, saves guard meter) but you do have to position correctly. The damage from the splat comes from its center .. so positioning is key.

I like to see a Video of yourself tanking this boss because he does the red circle none stop and probably one of the harder boss where he use aoe ways often for GF to block. There is even barely enough time to block all of it and the block often sometime glitch out too and don't even work.

I did this boss a few time and I can say GF is not very effective as it eat through your shield in just a few block. I did him with most group and always often end up in a wipe. I did couple more with my Guilds and he is one hit from dead. I just give him up because he is not worth it. You're talking like you never done this as a GF before. Talk is cheap, we need see proof and action.

I see. Seems to me the block animation should track the ICD so that you are not deceived into thinking you''re blocking when you're not. If the CD is still counting down and you try to block, you should not be shown to be blocking. A hotbar Icon showing the ICD may also be helpful.

chonir had covered that part not sure why mine ended up before his.

But yes currently that pretty much sums up the block problem. We get the animation, we get our powers lock out but we don't block. To be honest the devs have said the ICD isn't the issue and some agree since we can replicate this bug even when we haven't previously.

The most common event for the bug though is the charges we have, followed by quickly reblocking but any encounter can for some reason cause it. some have even had it happen if we hit and hold block while CCed.
