You know, I had started crafting, but found that the item requirements and the time to really level it up was not worth the effort; time invested in skilling, needing to buy stuff needed on the AH, etc, to me just wasn't worth it. By the time I was able to make anything of use, I had long outgrown it. I spent most of my efforts in Leadership, because that gives bonuses, items, AD, etc etc.
Once I hit 20 in that, I plan on moving back to tailoring. But for the most part, unless you have someone feeding you mats and you have a ton of money to invest in the advanced assets, it isn't worth it.
Crafting in general does not seem worthwhile to me regardless of class or profession. The only prof that seems to have long term usefulness is Leadership with it being able to generate AD.
Perhaps once blue/purple assets are attained it would be worthwhile to craft as a source of twink gear. I however have only been using the professions outside Leadership to obtain materials to sell in the AH. This is a slow but steady-ish source of small amounts of AD.

Then again, that's just my two cp.
