Mount Training?

Do you need to buy training for the mounts you buy?
My buddy gave me the Heavy Inferno Nightmare mount and it won't let me use it. I'm thinking I must need to buy mount training rank 2 and 3 to use it.
Was thinking about buying mount with Zen but if need to buy training forget it. Will take me forever to get enough Astral Diamonds to buy training.
Any info about mounts and training would be great.

Are you level 60? That may be the issue with using a Rank 3 mount.

Here's a tip on determining if a mount needs training:

If your mount's speed is already 110% (which includes to the best of my knowledge heavy inferno nightmare, spider mount from the expensive foundry pack and the horse from the second most expensive foundry pack) then you can't train them any further.

If your mount's speed is less than that and this applies to normal horses bought from mount vendor with 5g, then you can train them using the tomes to reach a max speed of 110%.

Disclaimer: I haven't trained any mounts up but the above is what I think is the case.

No not level 60 yet, guess I'll wait till I'm 60 to see if I can use it. So training just improves the mounts speed, did not know that. I put a ticket in about it, so will see what the devs have to say about me not being able to use my Heavy Inferno Nightmare Mount. Thanks for the replies.

I bought the standard 5 gold mount when I could afford it last month. I just bought the heavy inferno nightmare from the auction yesterday. I didn't need any training to ride it. Maybe you just need to have at least level 1 mount training.

I've read elsewhere that if you try to use a training tome on the heavy nightmare, it gets broken and you can't ride it anymore, check the bug reports section.

The training isnt to allow you to ride a horse. It upgrades the mount. You can upgrade a white mount to a blue one. And blue one to purple via the training tomes. Basically, with enough investment in the tomes you can make the basic 5 gold horses run as fast as the special rare unlocks.

Are you level 20? You can't ride any mount until you get to level 20. Once you are level 20 you should be able to ride any mount. The comment that said you can't ride a purple mount until level 60 is inaccurate.

Level 20 and completed the mount mission I believe, it should pop up in your Level Up rewards
