Waiting

Okay, well here we are. My wife and I have actually enjoyed the game so far, with a few minor caveats, but have reached a stopping point due to having to wait for this "beta" to end.

I started out in the early Beta's as a Founder, but ended up getting my money refunded after deciding that it was just not good enough to spend that kind of money on a F2P game. And now, both my wife and I are looking for other games to play until this "Open Beta" is done and the finalization comes about. The in-game economy blows goats, whether from exploiters or just poor implementation, the ZEN store is the next best thing to useless, the help and ticket submission is a joke and the chat......Ye Gods! Mystra give me strength......after the first day of playing, we both shut off the "Zone" option just to have a minor amount of peace.

I tinker around with the foundry a little, and that's just fine, but we have both reached a point in the game that unless they release the companion training tomes or better companions that don't cost too much we won't be doing more than logging in to do our prayers once a day. And the required "LFG" for the main instances is a major turn off for us. The only people we group with is each other, and have no interest in joining anyone's PUG, especially with the screwed up Leader settings.

Anywho, if they do finally put those tomes into the game, someone drop me a line and we'll look at becoming more active in the game again.

Hehe I hear you on the chat system! Turning it off was the smartest move I ever made in game.

I also know what you mean about waiting, I'm experiencing it to, I'm just waiting for the game to be finished so I can start playing it properly.

For now, I'm just fooling around with different character builds. But you're absolutely right about the companion training tomes, as a solo player they're essential to me.

As it is, I have yet to get any of my characters over 40, because I need that companion and there is no way on Earth that I will spend money on an unfinished game to buy one from the cash shop.

Anyway, keep dropping in from time to time, just to keep yourself up to date on the game. After all, they gotta finish it eventually :)

I just dinged 55 due to prayer about 20 min ago....but agreed. Generally my wife and I solo, only grouping up for the group required instances. I didn't know you could get the tomes from the zen store...didn't see it anywhere but the companion vendor with that detestable "Coming Soon!" tag....

let me get this straight. You gave some money for a game you liked, then you took it back and expect changes to the game you no longer support? Or else you will quit?

actually what is being said is that they are quitting until changes are made. He gave money out because he liked the game, not to support them. or he just doesn't support them anymore.

As for the OP... expect to only be gone for a few weeks as that's when changes are being made.

Even with a monster company like Blizzard with huge resources and a lot of practice, people still manage to complain that things get fixed too slowly in WoW. I've played this game for just a couple days now, and my list of things that are completely broken or imbalanced is getting disturbingly long. I can't fathom how a company with less resources and experience is ever going to get this straight.

They can try to prove me wrong, but I've been in the MMO scene for a long time. The outlook is not good for this game IMHO.

on the bright side I hope you know that things are getting fixed slowly while major patches that are several pages long in details are being worked on at the same time. this game isn't just fixing things right now. it needs more content and that is where most of their resources are in right now with the balance patch and the new class and gauntlegrym.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'd love for it to work out. I'm just a bit skeptical at the moment. The fact that WoW is still the top MMO bothers me. There's a lot of room for improvement. Someone just needs to go out there and do it.

It's a F2P game. They are designed for people to come and go as they please.

Memorial Weekend I played EQ2 and TERA. Came back played Neverwinter. Now I will play Dragon's Prophecy's open beta until a content patch happens here then I will come back and play Neverwinter for a while or I will play Rift after June 12th. The options are endless.

The game that holds my attention the longest (ie: most classes) will get the most money from me.

But you will never hear me say that "I quit" or "I'm leaving" because I just hop around at my own convenience. ;)

I like this response. I don't get why people say "im leaving" its like saying your not looking back. trust me when I say this that a lot of people are quitting but not forever. only for like a month. unless they really hate it, they will check for updates.

They should take a look at Path of exile, that company is like 30 people big and they update every week(patch every single week yum yum) and not lazy patches for making money, obviuesly there are some new cosmetics every week but ontop of that new skills new suport gems, older gems get reworked and balanced...all important stuff....

If i read the patch list of the last patches it's always been "gateway improvement" and "we added a new zen item" ore "we have fixed X bug/exploit" only to enter the game seeing the exploit is stil not fixed....
Dont get me wrong, i enjoy the game and it has great potential, but if i imagine this being made by Grinding Gear Games and there enthousiasm, this game would be steaming and probably making the company 5x the money it is making now deu to slow patching and terrible community communication....

For example, on PoE i wrote a PM directly to lead developer Chriss about there stance on multiboxers and concidering its a F2P game, 2 days later i got a written response explaining his stance on it(and it was obviues he had written this directly to me because of the way he made his sentences, not a "copy + paste" response)
Also when i dont fully understand the synergy ore possible interaction of a skill, i PM the skill-developer mark directly, and he has NEVER failed to respond to me in 1 day tops with an answer explaining my asumptions ore correcting them and adding info about the skill etc....

Now could u imagine this game being Developed by such an active team, with so much love for the game? This game would be TOP in a year max, like i currently imagine PoE wil be.

There is a lot of potential in this game trully, i think we all see it and that's why its so horible to see it go to waste. I hope they step up and addres the gameplay issue's soon rather then focussing on income, obviuesly if u fix the gameplay, the reveneu wil automaticly go up.
(in PoE people are paying 1000 dollars to create there own item :o compare that with the current neverwinter community)
Sorry for comparing these 2 games, but since i play both it is hard not to compare the one to the other, also experience with the developers wise...

So to OP i would say, dude if ure waiting, wait in style and go check out Path of Exile and obviuesly come back when this rough astral diamond is pollished and shiny.

I will again point out that they are working on all that. they are just waiting to release all the important updates. they have much planned... its just not ready yet. people that complain that there are only bug fixes are so impatient. if you feel they are slow, stop playing till there are new things added... unless you believe they are lying. that would be a different story.

The thing is, they might have less resources, but they are far from having less experience. PW and Cryptic have been around for a while with other MMOs, so they are well experienced with the genre. If this would be a thread on a SWToR forum it would be different since it was BWs first MMO.

And supposedly, PW and Relic are perfectly OK with the resources they have and get through F2P MMOs, otherwise they wouldnt release the Romulus expansion for STO and release NWO. Their economy and resources must be fine. And they have plenty of other F2P games in their history aswell, so it's probably profitable.

However at OP: I'm with you, I'm also waiting, or well pondering if it's worth waiting or if I should go back to GW2. I've reached 60 with a TR and a DC, trying to find something to do that isnt dungeons or PvP. But I cant, the lack of diversity in foundry drops/difficulty makes them boring fast. If there was a system to design proper group content a.k.a home made dungeons, ranging from normal difficulty to epic it would be great.

Right now there is no use for gold, so killing mobs and IDing items is pointless since the scrolls cost AD (why oh why?). Gems sell for a bit, its a steady income, leadership missions are ok. There is still a gap to fill the 24k rough AD limit per day. There arent enough dailies to fill the cap, not even when gauntlgrym is introduced. Why not let mobs drop rough AD, it wouldnt hurt since there is a 24k cap/day. Add a real level 60 zone aswell, something with repeatable quests like in STO.

Zones are also way too restricted and linear in my mind.
