24 Hour Mute - How to get it fixed - Details inside

In the real world when you want something to be noticed and possibly changed you do a rally and get the public to stand up and demand a change. A few people complaining about this won't get this fixed.

So stand up and demand a change:

REPORT everyone that posts in zone chat till something is changed.

Yep you heard me right, report every single person that posts in zone chat. Report till zone chat is empty and no one posts any longer. When the data comes in that there is a massive spike on bans and thousands of players are filing tickets about being unfairly global muted. Their will be a change as players are now abusing a system and abuse will require some kind of change.

Go to town and enjoy the silence for a few days.

Sounds good, I'll be sure to not say anything in Zone so that I'll be able to talk in party chat still. I'll just ban everyone else.

And then everyone will be on your ignore list and you can't talk to them. Genius.

that's what guild, /w is for.

You want to make a change you need to make an impression and prove your point there is an issue with abuse. Otherwise there won't be change.

All you have to do is find 20 other people and just clear out your ignore list afterwards if you are worried about the after-effects

Lets do it, consistently, then lets all flood their servers and break the game via ticket submission. Sounds awesome!

Cryptic knows that there is an issue with abuse. They just consider fixing the matter to be not worth the time and effort.

Then make it worth the time and effort. WE are the customers, and WE are asking for improvements to be made. We could always not pay anything, in essence voting with our wallets. This is a viable strategy as well, as most companies only care about profits and not customer relations/retention.

The only problem I see with the financial attack plan is getting enough people behind it. *shrug*

I agree completely. I was just responding to the OP's comment about letting Cryptic know that this system is being abused.

I suspect the only response you will see with this method is getting your own account suspended. It requires the least effort and would be typical of how Cryptic tends to handle things they dont wish to address.

you only need 21 people to make this plan work, and it feels like getting even at the same time which is quite exilherating. I'm up for reporting everyone I see in enclave myself, and can do it on 5 other accounts if need be. if someone has a script to make it run on 5 or 6 accounts, I'm up for leaving it on for a good ten to twelve hours a day some days. second time this **** has happened to me, and I don't caps, don't spam, wasn't even asking for/selling/buying anything so I took it very personal. It felt as if I were being targeted, and I could not even mail my bag between alts. I came to realize when I read how few rpeorts it takes, that people must be trolling it. Well mister script man, since I've been hit twice by your script, (caturday i excused and pretended didn't happen as people were flooding the HAMSTER out of it and i wrote a few times myself likely a lot of people were muted for nothing or by mistake. I did ask for a cat though, but if people are that much of a tool to mute/report someone for ismply that then I have no use for them anyways since my highest guy is a GWf it's not like I'll be playing with them anyway so I won't need to bother clearing my own mute list either lmfao) I'd like to make use of your script if it can be modified to run on 5 accounts.

Something needs to be done about this system. However, I don't think this is the way.

So, a system is put in place where users can police themselves.

Rather than act like civil, polite people, you'd rather we all subscribe to John Gabriel's Theory of the Internet? Go for the lowest rung, rather than, maybe, perhaps, act like the adult you are (or soon will be)?

If the system is failing, I would say it's because some people can't grasp the nature of being civil even when anonymous; cannot show basic respect to others who are also playing the game; cannot accept that their actions have consequences and maybe they should look at their own behaviour before blaming the system that "punished" them....

I don't know what happened to the other 60 page thread about this, but I created 20 accounts and went about banning people for the better part of an hour. Nothing has happened so far! Who wants to create the "people's silence movement" guild with me and ban everyone that posts in zone chat from now until forever?

Because this doesn't represent the situation at all. The problem is NOT that people aren't being civil; it's that there is no intrinsic value of "civility" that is universally accepted. Some people ban people just for advertising an item once, or for looking for a group. Others think that it is perfectly fine to do so. Because the punishment is so extreme, the prior group has far too much power over the latter.

The fastest way to get the situation fixed is to ensure that it HAS to be fixed to ensure the game can function.

Imagine if someone who was actually malicious, and not just trying to get the game fixed, decided to create multiple accounts and go on a banning spree? They could literally stop every person posting in zone chat from functionally playing the game for 24 hours at a time. Since you can use free email accounts to sign up for free game accounts, and since you can't functionally IP ban people in this day and age, there is no real defense against abuse of this system.

    lol sure

let the mute happy kids and snots get a taste of their own medicine, let them enjoy the game being rendered unplayable and being unable to transfer their HAMSTER for a day or a week if we feel like it. they like to feel powerful, well my experiences early in life gave me a need for it too, and if people push me I'll be very cruel regardless of consequences. online that's increased tenfold for obvious reasons. i can be a d!ck too if people would like to bring it out of me, if I can't even play agame to be free from that sort of tension why not. ruin my fun, I'm fine with ruining theirs too. mail @necronomnicon if/when you're able. I'll go on a couple , or maybe a few accounts either way I'll add at least one extra acc for ya. This community is giving me the constant impression it's the worst pile of HAMSTER since HoN

This self policing chat ban system needs to die in a fire. It simply doesn't work and can be easily abused. If a guild wanted to, they can chat and mail (yes, it bans you from sending mail to anyone, including yourself) ANYONE whenever they want, for as long as they want.
