Team up with a Control Wizard to keep the aggro away from you.
Stack defense, I dont run from trash I weclome it with 25k health, 38% dammage reduction from armor , 10% from forsight, 2.8% reflect, 5% deflect , 20% from Astral Shield, 15% Divine Shield. I stay in melee range, hit as many as i can with sunburst to build action points like a freak and once my set is finished every time I use an encounter I AoE heal for 5% of my total health, buff my hp when i attack you with my at will 1 and debuff you with at will 2 making so that you proc % based heals on dammage delt when anyone attacks them......I tank hordes of trash with my cleric and use less potions this way with the action point gain on sunburst so high if there are enough mobs I will be able to use Divine Shield every 20 seconds. A little more aggro or right where it is works great or why else do I have all the mitigation potential?

Because you've been forced to build your character like that otherwise you'd die pretty much instantly.

Maybe we're playing different games here, but I'm pretty sure that before we even choose to play clerics, the character creation screen has them wearing chain mail and other heavy armors. If that alone doesn't scream that "this class will have high defenses" than I don't know what would. Armor class being relatively high? Class specific armors that give moderately high defense stats? Nah.... I must be seeing more than what's there.
Nobody is forcing anyone to build their character this way or that. By all means don't build defense. Just make sure you don't heal or else every mob will turn your direction. Easy as that. Problem solved. The End.
Idk what you are talking about. I don't stack def, have ~29% and that's more than enough (+AS, foresight, hallowed, CW buff etc).
Now run CN exclusively.
I did Cn too sometimes, but got pissed of about guys need in all the item x.x why the **** the only ring i can use, there allways the full party doing need. A rigth, they will sell it to me for AD -...- Maybe i can start heal in the same way, you wont some heal? give me AD or die :P
Because every MMO i play, i play the healer, no matter how the mechanics work, i heal.
Honestly once you get used to it, the healing in neverwinter has It's charms.
You feel a little powerless sometimes, but thats mostly when you're grouped with ****ty players that don't dodge a thing,
A single Healing Word would often grab all or most of the aggro away from my party even with my reduced threat.
Not enough damage to make up for the aggro, and the disappointing heals are even more disappointing in how they affect the cleric itself so they didn't make up for the aggro either.
And the thing that bugs me the most: no ability to turn undead. Not even increased effectiveness against undead and/or unholy creatures.
The lower levels as a healer have been frustrating because no one cares yet about keeping you alive, as they've all got healer pets. Take desperate measures to break agro though and that will be your fault too. I really can't care about the tank's DPS if I am a corpse. I will be so happy when my Cleric is 60 and I can run with the rest of my Guild.
I play mine and will continue to play mine because I'm a HAMSTER. I love beating myself up and balance the scale by trying to keep others alive. I also played healers and off-tanks in other games. In this one I play both. Yes it is tiring, frustrating and ludicrously difficult, but hey, I'm a HAMSTER remember?
Now if only the OTHER party members could get their **** together and make even half the attempt I do to stay alive we'd be clearing the three trillion adds on my sexy bum in no time.

What are you guys smoking? The Cleric is the most broken (aka OP) class of this game. She can out-tank everyone and she's virtually unkillable in PvP, only a CW can do something and it's basically pushing her away from her Astral Shield. Otherwise, she can just macro an "/emote laugh" and spam it while you try desperately to cling some damage into her.
Characters: - Titania Silverblade, the Iron Rose of Myth Drannor (Lvl 60 GWF, Destroyer) - Gwyneth, the Cowardly Cat Burglar Drowling (Lvl 60 TR, Saboteur) - Lady Rowanne Firehair, Heartwarder of Sune (Lvl 33 DC) - Satella, Sensate (LvL 44 CW, Renegade, Non-Active)
Clerics need better self-heals... it's utterly ridiculous that the game's "healer class" hasn't a decent self-heal. While we're on the subject of self-heals, give the Cleric a healing skill (useable on a player as well as the cleric themselves) which can be utilized on the move. In the current Cleric repertoire, I cannot think of one self-heal skill that doesn't require the clear to root in place (if even for only a second). This makes kiting mobs (for Clerics), especially bosses, a near worthless proposition without having to down healing potions like a drunkard consumes alcohol at his favorite pub.
P.S. Just be thankful we don't have (gear) repair bills in-game... otherwise these forums would be asunder with Clerics crying, "HELP MEH, I'M PO!"
Get a GF to take aggro off the Cleric. The only time this really isnt something I can do is on the last boss of most T2 content. At that point the CW comes in to do their magic. I can normally take double the dmg as any other class.
I think what is wrong with the Cleric, is their only job in the game is to spam AS OVER and OVER. Having no really good way to single target heal, turns them into a mind numbing class to play .

A well made cleric is a middle of the road, balanced class. Its durable, and self-healing is a nice bonus. It has nice ranged aoe bombs. It had average single target damage. It has good mobility. So put it all together --- its a slightly (and only slightly, if well built) lower dps than GWF ranged aoe class that can heal, dodge attacks, tank (somewhat), etc. Its not top damage, but being ranged and able to kite, it does not have to be.
It does need a buff (most, if not all, classes do need some tweaks) to fix the aggro issues and weak healing in the low/mid levels (at 40 a heal spell does less than a tier 2 potion, that is, less than 2k for most). It probably needs a healing boost at 60 too (and maybe a weakening of the shield spell).

The Cleric is often the glue that holds your team together.
If I'm doing really well on a Cleric in PvP and keeping my team going...
If people on the opposing team are screaming in zone chat to "KILL THE $%^*# CLERIC"...
If no one on our side falls but many on the other side does...
Then I deserve to get a decent score.
You lost me on the rest OP.

Increase the broken (self) heal to 100 % again.
A cleric in need of potions almost like everybody else ? That is preposterous.
