Stolen from the moonstone mask section. Credit to Axer128 for original post.

Hey guys instead of spamming zone chat to trade or lfg, Join a official trade/lfg channel.

Type /channel_join NW Dragon Trade - to join trade for dragon
and /channel_join NW Dragon LFG - to join lfg for dragon
or
or /channel_join NW Mindflayer Trade
/channel_join NW Mindflayer LFG
or
/channel_join NW Beholder Trade
/channel_join NW Beholder LFG

To post in these channels, use the button on the bottom left to select one. To modify their colors or turn off zone chat, press the cog in the upper left hand corner.

I created the dragons ones, and we got lots of members already . I encourage other servers to create ones appropriately named too. Also create friendly descriptions and messages of the day please.

Owners of the other servers channels posts here and i'll put your names in, so ppl can message u if the motd or description should be changed.

Thanks guys and enjoy the less-spammy channels.

Why "NW" instead of just "<server> Trade/LFG"?

This needs to be Stickied AND added to a Splash Screen that pops up at the beginning of every Gaming session. Maybe on the Launcher to. And in an E-Mail sent to all players. And tattooed on Player Foreheads. O.K., maybe that last one is going a bit far. (Tabs back to Game. Looks at Zone Chat. Alt. Tabs back.) And then again, maybe not.......

Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.' Terry Pratchet The Thief Of Time

You're always gonna have /zone chat trade spam for one simple reason: it has a bigger audience. And, regardless of whether NOT joining the /trade channel means you don't want to see trade spam, the spammer wants you to see it. He/she wants everyone to see it.

I like the idea of /trade but never once in any MMO I have played has an official trade channel stopped the global spam.

But those people will have to deal with being silenced.

If it's a fair trade to them, then okay. Nothing can be done. They will spam their sales and some people will either report them for spam or simply put them on ignore. Either way, after a while they won't be able to talk at all for a time, and eventually may find that their "larger audience" mostly can't hear them.

But if people are talking about buying or selling on a trade channel, they can generally do so with no fear of being silenced.

Sure, there is always the possibility that someone is so insistent on spamming their sales that they just become too irritating for everyone, and there are those people out there that use the ignore/report function as a way to punish people for kicks or due to some perceived slight, but mostly if someone uses trade chat to advertise trades no one will care.

They may or may not get trades done, but most people won't be putting them on ignore for posting such things.

Agreed. A combination of both an aggressive /report spam function and a dedicated, official /trade channel would be best. I do like PWE's spam report system.

Hey, it's a stopgap solution to the people being chat banned for spamming trade chat.

Trying to get people to embrace these, since the people who whine about it incessantly on these boards seem to have no initiative other than to complain about it.

    This post, I approve of...
Too many folks sit back and whine, few take action.
You should be commended for maintaining this.

But those people will have to deal with being silenced.

And then we're back to them moaning on about how it was an unfair cop and they were framed by the Illuminati or something. Along with selective screenshots to prove they were whiter than driven snow. If I sit and watch Chat what I often see is a dozen people filling chat with their trades. no one else can do anything. They are colletively spamming the channel even if each one only posts 2 times a minute (not that i would mark such a poster as spam myself but other people aren't as easy going as me and that's life).

Then as I watch these people vanish and for a time things are quiet. I suppose some have sold their stuff but I also guess enough people have reported them to get them banned. Now being banned for posting 2 times a minute might seem unfair but from the perspective of the rest of us these people were collectively spamming and got what was coming to them.

As things stand - if you post a trade in zone chat you run the risk of being silenced. Factor that into your decision to post or not and live by that choice. Don't come on here complaining about it. This is how PWE have always run things, if you don't like it that's too bad. They aren't going to change it.

Indeed. But to whine they have to come to the forums. At that point they will likely look past the stickies (assuming this gets a sticky) or neglect the search feature while under their raged induced foaming at the mouth. In their complaint thread they can receive a link to this thread. And of course they will still complain... but they will also join the chat so they aren't silenced again so mission accomplished.

That is a lot of steps, but I think it will be effective.

Normally I'm against community policing like this, but I'm in favor of everyone reporting these trade spammers. It's gotten ridiculous. I know the auction house is a convoluted mess of broken search options and clueless auctioneers, but sometimes I'd like to have a conversation in zone chat without being bombarded with trades no one reads.

But I read every trade that goes through and isn't spammed off by gold spammers.

I have the BHTrade, BHLFG, MBTrade, and MBLFG channels up in my guide since they were easier to type, but if you get more population out of the newer channels for both servers, let me know and I'll add them to my list in place of the others.

Good question, but what I was wondering was why have the server name in the channel; surely you can only see channels on the server you're on making it redundant.

    Custom channels are apparently cross-shard.

Not only cross shard, but they cross all three of Cryptic's games. Anyone in STO or CO can join a public channel and see what's going on in Neverwinter.

And there are at least 7 different Neverwinter trade channels already.
