Im sorry for the title i wanted to grab peoples attention.
I keep reading posts on loot rolling issues and i cant agree more there is a huge issue but some of the ideas people have to fix it is just plain moronic.
Rolls on need is bind on pickup
rolls on greed is bind of equip
seriously?
This is what the devs need to do and you just need to add a few lines of code to make this happen.
The loot drop and the loot UI appears.
The need button is lit up if your class can USE the item
for example: a dagger drops, all rouge in the groups need button is lit up and clickable, every other class there need button is grayed out and un-clickable.
Green and pass will always be lit and clickable. Of course you will have most people need every item for there class (which is already occurring). There is no way around that.
This is what needs to be and what all other MMO's do, its a very simple code addition and should create many bugs. This is a simple solution to a very big problem. Im currently play a level 60 Trickster Rouge and ive been doing T2 instance queing for over 2 weeks now. When a rare t2 item drops it has been my experience that at least one other player will also need on the item even if they cannot use it. They will make some lame reason and continue on, the group will continue going and you must pray that you win the next roll, this sadly create a hostile player experience and has taught many people to need on everything no matter what because someone else in the group will. Also when this happens someone will almost always leave the group (which sucks when you FINALLY get a good grp together), the grp will then disband and everyone loses time and energy for nothing if this happened on the first boss, the only winner is the loot ninja, they will just re-que again and repeat the process. I just want to add that there needs to be a penalty for people who abandon a instanced qued grp. Give them 30min-1hr lock periode, not allowing them to reque again until after the lock.
This is a simple request and fix to a very huge problem. There is plenty of MMO's that have used this system and have shown it to be successful.
Please refrain from opening new threads on things already being discussed, this actually makes it harder for the devs to keep track of how many people want it, whereas if everyone keeps posting how much they want it in one thread they can see the actual numbers (of a sample group, since not everyone goes on the forums)
And the topic? Under discussion. Way to be late to the party and suggest what a hundred other people already have in those same threads with the ideas that you are criticizing.
Dunno about everyone, but if you think Need on Class solves everything, then you're missing it's obvious flaws.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev
nbg system is out dated as its existence, even before games forced the system onto players. just have a chance that there is an item on the boss for just you, no rolls, no one else can even see you won anything. fixed. wait too complicated and radical maybe in another 20 years of game design.

#1 it is a timed question forcing an answer and often in mid fight.... in a game where you must ether press a 2 button combo to answer OR press alt, then mouse to button while getting the tar beat out of you.
#2 the ONLY reason not to need is if you are in a group with 100% friends in it, so you pass on things you KNOW they need. (this ONLY benefit to the NoG system is not applicable in a game that allows you to "trade items" with other players, seeing as if "friends" already, then any one of you can pick up it all, and simply pass the loot around to anyone "in need" after the area is cleared.
I conclude that the "default" loot type be changed to "Round Robin" and that NoG be TOTALLY REMOVED from the loot style option list. (this would also apply to CO and STO loot systems, NoG has always been a bad idea in a game that allows players to trade gear. )

No it's not what all other mmo's do. In fact it's what most mmo's don't do.
There's no way to prevent ninja'ing mostly because lots of people still think ninja'ing is rolling on an item when you have better even though you can use it.
I still say that the best solution is make everything BoE and FFA rolls. That way even if someone gets your piece you might get a similar one that you can sell and buy the one you want.

. . . Wait. . .
It's also grammatically incorrect.

Do I give a flying **** about your loot? No!
Isnt that gw2?
