Other players control the muting. You can do it to anyone, at any time, by clicking their name in the chat window.
There's really no guideline or method for preventing people from doing it. It only takes a handful of people to click you, to mute you.

It's a very flawed system, and easy to abuse to troll people.

From what I've found, the marks against you don't reset until you've been muted. So, if you were ignored/reported a few times here and there since the last time, they just keep adding up. So if today you got one more, BAM, you're muted again and the total will reset again.

    Edited to eliminate ambiguity.

Stop vomiting that gibberish onto the screens of 10,000 plus people and you won't get silenced. Respect the zone by typing clear, respectful, concise messages in a language that everyone can understand. Remember that whatever you type into the Zone crosses into all the instances and you only have to irritate 20 people for the ball to get dropped.

I hate to break this to you, but if you're being muted that often then your interpretation of your chat behavior obviously differs from reality.

    Still wondering?

On-topic: How many "report spam" reports do we need to get the 24h mute?

Don't be annoying and people wont mute you? I don't even use zone chat anymore. /trade, /general, /lfg, /rp, and /ooc much more peaceful. I also find that the people are a lot more tolerable on those channels vs the ever so awful /zone.

Probably getting muted because you are using Zone chat for the things that /lfg and /trade exist for. Keep the right chat in the right channels.

IQ of players in F2P game combined with "quality" of Neverwinter makes game unusable.

Use alt accounts for zone chat
and be ready for them to receive bans.

You always hear just the one side of the argument, and everyone makes themselves out to be the victim.

    OP:

Based purely on the way you speak it's of absolutely no surprise you're being muted as often as you are.

Hell, you're spamming this forum post alone with "This is stupid." and other negative criticism.

Straighten up, breath, mature a bit and you won't get muted as often. The system is there for this reason. If it's not working for you, try changing the way you behave.

Maybe you're being muted because no one wants to hear what you're saying. Respect other players in the game; they're here to have fun too.

Id love to see the channels pushed more. Id love to see a default pregenerated trade channel.

Broadcasting in zone is so limiting. I know, the reply is "but it has the numbers". Numbers are meaningless if the vast majority have no interest in what you want to say. A dedicated channel has a built in audience of people, not only interested in hearing you, but joined for that very reason. And it broadcasts to the ENTIRE game. Not just PE, but every zone and instance.

Why so many folks seem resistant to not only using it, but promoting it as well. Seems beyond me.

Usually it takes three posts for people who start these threads to make it clear why they got muted. You did it in the first post. gz.

I know alot of people will instantly 'report spam' if someone advertises for an afk pvp group. That only takes 1 line and gets lots of instant spam reports.

Personally I don't care if someone says they are selling X item as long as it isn't in caps, only said once every minute or so and isn't a list of their entire inventory. Can't stand double posting, caps etc.

Gold sellers, even 1 line in non caps will get my vote as a reported spam.

Not heard of anyone using it for trolling though.

The fact is, people spam Zone with WTT/WTS messages, and we're tired of it. 90% of what they are trying to trade/sell is complete garbage anyway. Don't spam zone and you won't get muted. Zone chat has been cleaned up ever since this was implemented and I'm thankful for it.

There are a few things I will click the report spam on:
    1. Perversion
    2. Moderate and higher cursing
    3. People call other people inappropriate names
    4. People putting down the religion of others

    Those sort of things.

I dont consider it flawed or trollish, chances are if you post LFG or Trading or buying or any other comment and turn around 10 secs later and post the exact same message you deserve a 24 hr ban.

Post your message once, wait a few minutes and maybe try again.
