Very interesting! I like the ability to choose my and my enemy's armies. As a foundry author myself, I can tell that there was a lot of work put in here to enable this sort of thing
The Catacombs of Dread
This quest I wasn't as bit a fan of. For one, it's huge. The foundry window said the average completion time was 119 minutes, and after playing for about half of that, I'm not surprised. This wouldn't be such a bad thing if much of the quests I was up to weren't... well, busywork. Here's the specific notes I made:
- That's no dragonborn! That's a kobold!
- Your first set of spider eggs are floating off of the floor a bit
- This is the third time I've been sent to the same spot; it's a bit repetitive
-- Now the fourth time
-- FIFTH
- Smoke on the ground kinda looks like dirt
- SIXTH
- Running around gathering water feels even more like busywork - very annoying, I've already been through these areas six times! Just putting out the fires would be enough.
- SEVENTH
- Sooooo tempted to take the succubus' offer and kill that stupid kobold
- This giant cavern room (between dungeon and Venecia's room) is pointlessly big.
After talking to Venecia, she told me to go find spiders. I searched every space of the catacombs (bringing my total for the hated central area up to eight visits) and didn't find anything. All the doors required a skull key which I didn't have, having already used it to get to Venecia's room. There's a chest behind her but it never activates. At that point, I gave up and quit out of the quest.
I'd advise some very clear wording in your quest description, because this quest just goes on and on. I can appreciate an extended jaunt, but when the objectives are this repetitive, it drags it out for no real upside.

Thanks for the feedback and support! To be honest, those two quests are meant to be polar opposites, so it's quite understandable you'd be a fan of one and not the other, I think that's how most people will feel. I'm glad you enjoyed Regular Quest, it was made to please the masses after reading many posts regarding what the players want.
About the Catacombs of Dread:
Yes, I know Skane is actually a Kobold, not a Dragonborn.. There aren't really any Dragonborn skins, so I gave him better posture, and some Paladin-ish armor, with some blessing animations and such. Hopefully I'll get a real Dragonborn skin to work with one day! It would be better if I could scale him up a bit. A lot of people end up wanting to kill Skane after meeting Kindle, and I can't blame them, he is kind of annoying, making you do all those DREADFUL menial tasks, walking back and forth. A lot of people hate it, but this is exactly what menial tasks feel like.
Venecia's crystal tomb spiders aren't as far away from her as you would think. I apologize if you played the Catacombs of Dread without reading the thread about it first, it is pretty much a pure exploration quest with many hidden items and objectives, and almost no waypoints. You only have to find the golden spider to get Venecia's skull key. The viridian one gives you a green crystal, and the lavender one gets you a reaver spider that follows you around. You'll need the spider to trade later. OR you can kill Venecia, take her treasures, and later on intimidate the fellow you'd trade the spider to otherwise into just giving you his horse which you need to get a skull key from another character in the next section.
Overall, I do NOT recommend you do the Catacombs of Dread to casual players. It was made for a niche of players who love exploration, and hate being lead around by sparkly trails, and waypoints. I understand most people aren't going to like the Catacombs of Dread, in fact, once they try it, they DREAD ever trying to finish it. In my opinion, this is how a deep exploration quest should be. Thanks for the feedback though even though you didn't enjoy it. I'll be sure to edit my sig so fans of Regular Quest don't play it expecting the same kind of experience.
On a positive note though, Regular Quest has been published as a tribute for all the players who did not like the Catacombs of Dread for it's size/length, and is ready for plays/reviews! So all you players get out there and try it! It only takes like two minutes and there's over 50 ways to play!
Too short, basically just a grinding map. I expected better after playing the first one done by this author.
Lya, this map is a response to people who did not like The Catacombs of Dread due to it's length. It's pretty hard to please everyone at once, you know.
Waiting for more reviews on Regular Quest. It's average duration has went down to 1 minute, since its so short you'd think I'd be getting more reviews for it than The Catacombs of Dread. lol
I have not played either of your quests as of yet, but I think the reason Regular Quest might not be doing as well as you'd expect is that both the name and the duration seem to indicate a "joke" quest. I personally, would see a quest for two minutes, and unless it had an inspiring name I'd ignore it. My assumption would be no combat, little dialogue and a mistakenly published quest by an inexperienced foundry user.
Of course that last part is certainly not true, but you'd be surprised how much these little bits of information matter. =(

Perhaps. I still recommend you try it though. Because there are so many ways to play it, and you can scale the difficulty however you like, it's actually a pretty neat quest to be so short.
After writing that response, I did indeed try it. I sent my review as: Cyrodor, but I'll just repeat what I said:
The idea was interesting, but pay-off to the story was not very impressive. I imagined something clever, and an extension to the story that the box could not beaten.
It was very dark in the room. I didn't like that.
I liked the red water environment though, and the emporium was well decorated.
I don't know how possible this idea is, but I would have suggested a quest that, if you are smart and aware, can be easy to get through. The length being determined by you and your choices. I think you might have taken feedback from your previous long quest a bit to drastically.

As you said, it is intended to be a bit of a joke quest, and I did take feedback from the previous quest a little drastically. Still, I think Regular Quest turned out to be pretty innovative for a 1-2 minute quest, as there's over 50 ways to play if you learn the cheat from Bigby after losing once. Even with the 1 army vs 1 army scenario there are 25 different ways to play. If you want a tough raid encounter, just spawn* yourself a weak army of kobolds, spawn every army for Mordenkainen, and bring a few buddies. If you want easy, spawn two or three armies for yourself, one for Mordenkainen, and just aggro the enemies into fighting your huge army. Anyway, I've tried to offer the best of both extremes. Regular Quest is a short combat game that is entirely customizable by the player. The Catacombs of Dread is a ridiculously deep exploration dungeon that is more about interacting with NPC's and exploring than combat. Maybe with my next project I'll try to find more of a balance, but trust me, it is hard to please everyone at the same time.
Bumping one more time, surely SOMEONE here has 2 minutes to spare to review Regular Quest...

I gave this 5 stars/500AD because of it's innovation. It would be nicer if the battlefield was better lit, and the warforged I spawned for my side seemed to get stuck and not advance well to deal with the enemy.

Thanks so much for the stellar rating and the tip! Yes, this map is pretty innovative, it even surprised me. Sometimes the guards act kind of stupid, I think that's an AI bug. Maybe the follow behavior is interfering with their combat behavior. Other times they do wonderful and just annihilate the enemy.
