I dont know about you guys, but I started playing this game because I love the world of the Forgotten Realms. Ive read most of the Salvatore books set in this world (up to The Two Swords), Ive played Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights... so when first Ive heard about this MMO, I was excited, that finally Ill meet my favourite characters, I can help them save the world or whatever, show them that Im a hero material too.
And what did I get? Nothing. Noone in the game ever mentions any of the characters I love. To be honest, this is a big fail in my opinion, one of the greatest strengths of this game could have been the link to characters you already know of and love, making you like this game before you know it. But nooo...

No. Sorry, but, being a huge Realms fan myself (and that goes above the ubiquitus Salvatore, though I won't deny I love his stories), having played NWN, NWN2, Demon Stone and Baldur's Gate 2, I loved the part of the game that had to do with lore. If you don't see Drizzt smiling before your character, that means nothing. I did like the scene with him in Demon Stone, hell, it was awesome seeing him when I least expected it. But the lore in Neverwinter has depth. Not just names. Open your Journal from time to time and read these entries. I admit it could be better, but I don't think I'd like to see any of the known characters.

    Key word here, " I don't think I'd like".
So, it's been proven that connecting via stories from before, is HUGE, AND, there are ways to incorporate that into the game without alienating the stories/authors and skewing information and ruining stories.... EASY...just time consuming, ah, the real culprit here, lack of quality. Think that about clears the issue at hand eh?

I think going forward we may see some characters but if you have read the Neverwinter series you would know that Drizzt's and his new companions aren't even in the Realms (well they are but they aren't) and won't be for many years. Still Elminster is around but many miles away, and there are some bit characters they could put in.
Always Looking for mature laidback players/rpers for Dungeon Delves!

I'm very sorry, but just because we don't have Drizzt and Jarlaxle and whatnot doesn't mean we have nothing. We have the Spellplague, which is one of the most important events in the recent Realms history. We have the Ashmadai, the Thayans, and lots and lots of lore bits that fit well with each other. Subtlety is key here.

I haven't even thought about it personally. When I played pen and paper I never saw any of these named characters, beyond ones that had to be in like city officials, certain leaders. Not really adventurer's from books. I didn't care either. It was insanely fun without them.

I think if they added them, they would have to be over the top in some crazy way.

Personally, I'm fine without them. Maybe, if more books come out about specific characters, they can add them in to keep in line with the expanding story and lore.
TL : DR? Then don't waste my time responding.

My favorite character is not in the game as well.

So I added her, using the foundry.

Ysgard is now my favorite level in the game.
