what does this mechanic do? i see there are several levels of injury, what actually does it do to my character?
is it just a cash sink buying injury kits?
Its just a death penalty.
If you die, you get an injury to either your legs, wich reduce your movement speed, your arms, wich reduce your damage, your body, wich reduces your health, and your head, wich reduces your recharge speed.
Its just an equivalent of repairing armor, games with an economy need a gold sink.

You can, of course, just loiter near a campfire and the Injury will heal over time.
Three minutes to heal an injury in town or by a fire. And as death penalties go this on is pretty gentle, downright kind. Injury kits are not that expensive and buying them for in-game currency rather than AD shows that PWE has just not considered the money making potential of selling people back their own characters.
But it is so much better than having your corpse drop somewhere out in the wilds and then having to locate it and all your stuff again. Bone Wand anyone?
You know, lots of things in this game have tooltips. Well pretty much everything does. Why don't you try putting your mouse over the injury and learning what it's doing to your character.
