I really want to like Neverwinter, but I keep losing interest, and I think I know why.
No pet class. Sure, we get companions, but in some cases, you can pretty much forget that they exist. Especially once they're max rank and you can't do anything to upgrade them anymore.
You can't give them position commands, you can't set stances, you can't even have an influence on when they use their abilities.
That's what I feel like this game is missing, a class that commands minions/companions.
In one particular superhero MMO that's gone, I could have a necromancer with 7 undead summoned at a time, all following separate commands. Now that was fun, and added a great element of strategy.
Here's hoping we see some classes added that have some sort of summoning abilities, to bring my interest in again. Right now, it's waning.
There more class coming for the game most like they have a Necromancer class and Beastmaster
just look up dungeon & dragons 4.0 classes
Keep in mind to look at OFFICIAL classes, and not homebrew.
For instance Necromancer isn't it's own class, but a branch of Wizard/Cleric.
Just like Beastmaster is a branch of Ranger.
Also, it's been alluded to by devs that the next two classes will be Ranger (archer) and Scourge Warlock (possible demon summoning here)

I know right? Personally I REALLY want a Hexblade Warlock class eventually. Favorite table top class hands down.
powerful sword, decent ranged magic (eldritch blast), AoE (hellfire blast), etc
Not to mention the fact that Hexblades have 3 paths to choose from, and the one path gives them a life-stealing blade and attacks.

Well, I like the idea of summoning demons, that'd make this game more interesting.
Look at fighter; In the PnP game, you make a fighter and can take whatever abilities and end up with what you end up with.
There are two different build options/suggestions in the PHB, but a fighter is a fighter.
In this game, the build options are the classes. Those fighter options in the PHB? Guardian Fighter or Great Weapon Fighter.
A "Beastmaster" ranger is a specific build type, just like 2-weapon or archer. They insert the archer as the class and that is that. You will have different options for feats and powers and whatever paragon abilities, but everything is working towards you being an archer, not some pet class.
I totally, totally agree! Summoners are my absolute favorite class to play!
Unfortunately, this is a multiplayer game, they want us to group with other people, not command a small army of our own, so I can't see them ever introducing this.
As this person said. Warlock doesn't summon. Wizard and Druid though both have a Summoner build but their pets are temporary. Shaman is a full pet class and ranger has a pet build named Beastmaster.
As mentioned, set builds are becoming classes for this game, so a class that summons demons, elementals and so on are all feasable. The companion that is just a shield or just a sword reminded me of enchanters in EQ, I am not sure if a D&D equilalent exits, but it would be great to have a class with a floating sword or shield as a pet and at high lvel a combine sword and shield:) Always liked that pet (though in eq it was pretty useless at high levels). I also liked Beatmasters, druids can be a pet class to I believe, not sure about shaman but spectral pets version might be fun. Necromancers with skellies, and of course Deathknight usually come with a zombie or undead friend.
I know some of these are not basic classes, but they can be made in D&D, so I see no reason why they can not eventually become class for Neverwinter.

I could even live with making a summoning class just by adding a new paragon class for the CW. Rather then CW you become a SW summoning wizard. Not sure for 4.0 but 1-3.5 you could be a spec wizard (necro, conjuror, evoker, etc).

I could live with the CW having a summoning option. Anything to add some control and strategy to it.

I made the joke to my D&D friends that when this game releases Warlocks, there are going to be a lot of confused and angry former WoW players.

I like the sound of scourge warlock.

Cant it have both skill trees?
Not how they have been operating here.

Edit: What? Class balance? Pah..

CW vs GWF comes to mind.
