Some Suggestions about Professions

While I like the professions we have so far, I do see room for expansion.

Apothecary
(Possible stages: Herbalist, Potion Master, & Alchemist)

Basically, a profession that provides a way to convert materials into various dyes and potions as an alternative to either buying them or finding them as drops. Other missions could include gathering specific ingredients for higher level potions, healing the sick (NPC generic mission like Guard the Caravan) and so forth.

Merchant
(Possible Stages: Vendor, Trader, Merchant)

While I foresee this ending up as another material gathering profession servicing a players crafting professions (and another way to maybe get random dyes), what I hope to see produced here is a way to introduce a small variety of additional noncombat stuff that players can have fun with or sell at the AH.
  • Townsfolk Clothing as seen on actual Neverwinter inhabitants wandering the streets. Not Z-Store level stuff, but stuff that doesn't leave the players looking like poor country farmers either.
  • Non-combat Pets, such as cats or ferrets. Maybe some others as well, but at least a basic set of minor vanity pets. Save the more exotic non-combat pets for the Z-Store
  • Expendable Non-combat Items, such as mug stacks that have whoever uses them to raise a visable mug, then drink from it; or other fun stuff like that.

And I'm sure others may have ideas for the professions I presented, or the existing ones, or even for additional new professions... :D

I just started playing around in professions, but I was wondering if higher level crafters could make equipment with random properties. By random properties, I don't mean a fixed property with a random stat attached to it, but rather a set of one or more properties selected at random, with random values.

It could be implemented by the hiring of an "Unstable Enchanter", that can be added to the crafting of, say, a platemail. Adding him in the process would add 1-? random properties to the item, along with taking longer to craft... Properties could also have a chance to be negative, due to the unstable nature of said Enchanter... ;)

    Anywho, just a thought.

Also, how about making it so picking a task automatically reserves the necessary components, leaving the optional components at the player's option? This way one wouldn't have to click as much, given a more streamlined task-picking interface. (That sounded somewhat fancy.)
