"Profanity"

Anyone else found any stupid combinations that are flagged as offensive? Just found that you can't have "put a" (reads it as one word, which is a slang profanity) and won't allow "horny" :D

I mean seriously, I'm all for being cautious, but isn't that a little extreme?

    Yeah, it's quite extreme. AFAIK, Cryptic has already made changes to the filters based on feedback from the closed beta. They aren't very happy with it either. From what I've been told, the filter was made by a different company altogether.

    you can't have 'snatch' either. I suppose I can see why but still, I was using the word correctly, as in "snatch that object quickly". I also ran into problems with idiot, suck and a few others I can't currently recall. I'm okay with the concept of keeping abusive terms out of the game but if people are actually going to get upset because an NPC called them or another NPC an idiot, then they have far bigger problems in their lives. There needs to be a better balance between catering to the "hurt feelings" crowd and allowing adults to use colorful words to tell their stories.

    I find this totally surprising considering the multitude profanity filled names i have seen running around, which i reckon would probably be censored on here if i tried to type them.

    Turn off the profanity filter in the chat options. Problem solved :)

    that is a completely seperate thing they are talking about publishing foundry quests with the very verbose profanity filter giving them issues i dont know if its possible but you may be able to subvert the filter by using ascii codes to use letters with accents eg(

    The filter really should only block racial slur and perhaps some more offensive profanity. I believe that anything more is not only unnecessary but has a negative impact on communication.

    Ah ok, totally misunderstood :)
    Haven't run into the problem myself. I guess its because I tend to use different words when typing dialogue for some reason.

    No really, I've seen forums block that word (I can't even begin to imagine how you'd work it into a D&D adventure though!)

    LOL I ran into this same thing last night.

    I was putting in the sentence..."We have to put a stop to the madness." and it was flagged by the profantiy filter. I was totally baffled.

    Had the same issue with the profanity filter, a word very similar to "darn"... is there really anyone who finds this word offensive?
    They need to be a bit sensible with this sort of thing, it's difficult to write a dialog that doesn't sound mechanical with so many blocked words.

    Sheltering soccer mom made the filter so that her little darling wasn't offended by words like "idiot".

    You know what word I found the other day? "fion"

    I have no idea why, but the foundry won't accept that word. Go figure.

    In one of my flare dialogues for a sergeant training recruits one of the options to reply I had was, "You're being a little hard on those recruits, don't you think?" Yep. Flagged. Had to remove "on" with "with."

    I tried using "cattle pens" in the dialogue - pens is considered offensive.
