Nice write up - I've never noticed any bottlenecking but I run an i7 so constantly sit on 60fps...but best line goes to:
This is in sharp contrast with Neverwinter's revenue model. No content is gated, and progression isn't slowed for free players. Sure, you can use real money to buy in-game items, but you can also earn those items through by playing and trading in-game currency (Astral Diamonds) for paid currency (Zen, sold online through the game's publisher, Perfect World). This is an ideal way for a free-to-play game to operate: no restrictions on non-paying players, and everything in the cash store can be earned through play.

CPU bound, no wonder.. Getting quite sick of this.. GW2 was a disaster enough.
Wish they tested with overclocked CPUs; most of their hardware was lower budget until they went to the triple monitor setup, which is irrelevant for a lot of people. Most people who even care about benchmarks are running overclocked stuff.
I'm personally running a i7-3770K @ 4.5GHz and dropping to the 40's when in town at max settings. Turn the UI off and it shoots to 60, because hey, the UI rendering needs to be fixed. That said.. did they even mention it in the article? I skimmed through it. Pretty bad if they don't know about it because it skews the results IMO. Also, they could try testing DX11 even though it's experimental. I found the UI not to hit the framerate as hard in DX11, but shadows took a massive hit instead, dropping down to the low 30's in the same places that I was getting 40's in DX9.

@silentiltm: "and progression isn't slowed for free players."
Character level wise, no.
Everything else, like professions, most definitely.
Don't pay for the game? Spend 2-4+ hours getting 40-80 exp (for leadership) or 20-25 minutes for 25-50 exp for crafting items or 10 minutes for 5 exp and a bundle of reagents needed to craft items.
Pay for the game? Spend TEN SECONDS getting at least FOUR TIMES the amount of materials and DOUBLE the exp of crafting an item.
Not slowed my ***. But hey, I'm sure it was written just for marketing.

The game has always been 60+ fps for me on maximum 1920x1080p.
I wish the dungeons were a bit more creative in terms of gameplay as quests are always going to be dull in any mmo, make the dungeons exciting so that players have something to look forward to.
Balancing issues in PvE and PvP make for some heavy controversy and debate but I will drop this topic as it is "Open Beta" then again these issues should not be excused as open beta basically (in my vast experience in playing MMO's) means that the game is released and ready.
They should rethink some things for there Pay to Not Win but for Convenience model. Lots of feedback on that so I'll shut up.
Other than that, queuing needs to be faster and in-game voice chat needs to be fixed.
If everything I mentioned becomes fixed in the next 1 or 2 months then the game will be one of the popular mmo's out there.
Oh and Cryptic, to make your life simpler please just do what Dragon's Nest did and just make base stats in PvP for each class and level. You're going to have a hell of a time balancing things once you release NEW classes and NEW paragon paths! (I really don't think players that farm for the best gear out there will mind what happens in PvP as most PvP players are competitive and when competition is involved, everyone needs to be at the same levels for fair play)
What about dx11 Test...?
Cpu still bottlenecks the gpu with dx11 activated?

TBH i doubt its the cpu that bottlenecks any of you (dont know about dx11). But with my i5-2500 3.7GHZ and 2x GTX660 on 1920x1080 i hardly ever drop under 60fps (i got the game on ultra, sometimes i have little spikes couse of the SLI but its very rare)

You should disable the Combatlog by Default (atm its set to 1 by Default, i just found a logfile from over 1 GB Size in my Gamefolder, for most people a permanent Combatlog dont make sense only waste tons of HD Space)
How are people finding DX11(beta), is it slower or faster than DX9? And which ones of options are less demanding to the CPU?
Where is DX11 beta ...? Or is it just default on if you have a DX11 video card?
I'm running a 2560x1440 max everything settings neverwinter, town is average 40fps, instances are like 60fps
I-7 3770 @ 4.8ghz 670 @1.25Ghz (can easily fraps instances at 60fps also)
For me i5-3550K 3.8Ghz (Overclocked up from 3.4) and ASUS GTX 660 DCII i have 54-60 FPS with everything at maximum (including the options at advance mode)DX11 and resolution 1920x1080, at all areas except the Town which i have between 34-40 fps.

Thanks, tried DX11 mode, and stood and looked around the same area as earlier, got maybe 1-2 more fps increase at the 2560x1440 max settings I play at, other then that no real noticeable change with anything .

Awesome.. I have Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 WF2 2GB, Amd Phenom II x6 1055t@2.8Ghz, 8GB DDR3 Ram. And ~20 fps in town, doesn't matter if lowest possible or maxed out settings. And in other areas ~40fps.
The article says, "and everything in the cash store can be earned through play." Oh? I'm sortta new where can I get those 24 slot bags and extra bank space through playing? The economic system is pretty weird and rather confusing there a way to get zen by just playing? That's the only way I saw to get the two things I mentioned... same with the faster mounts I thought....could be wrong ... just asking.

Yes, you can get Zen by earning astral diamonds through your dailies, crafting, and certain rare drops. You buy the Zen through the Exchange - see the button at the top of the UI that has both the Zen symbol & an astral diamond. Last I saw, Zen was running about 300 AD to 1.

Because farming 400,000 AD only takes 2 weeks of 8 hours a day playing. Stop insulting people by trying to make it sound easy
Seriously, I can sit here on a Saturday and Sunday (assuming I have the 8 hours each day) and end up with maybe 15k AD, questing all day, running profession missions, crafting as well.
Not sure where you all get the idea that one can farm AD in a few week to get that much.
This game is not built for that kind of farming, you must be OD'in on game time

I noticed the same thing. Hide the UI in town and the frame rate shoots up.
An another note, what's the trick to enable DX11 rendering?
Free PC Games! (legally)
It's in the options, tucked away under the troubleshooting setting.
