Hey folks. Cleric here needing advice on how to defeat the boss of the Duergar Stronghold: Commander Thangardi. I am level 59 healing specced and find he can kill me during the cooldown of a healing pot with attacks that take off 1/4 of my life and don't seem to be avoidable.

I'm stuck! Any suggestions please?

Is it a red aoe attack or a wind up with a slow animation attack?

Either one is completly avoidable by simply moving all the time. Like most bosses, just because you're a healer you can't just stand there take it in the face and hope to heal through it.

It's like people who complain about wraiths in ebon downs. Omg they heal their whole life bar with that cone attack! If you're constantly circle strafe them they never hit you with it (and it's a perfect opportunity to counter them with a nuke since they're pinned while casting it).

Yep I see the responders where PLed

They forget all clerics get anchored on every attack and power they use thus they cant actually kite....since they will always have to stop to chuck the attacks.

If its the boss I believe it is.....which means these other responders have not actually played against the enemy anywise...your best bet is to use a pet that attacks and get back from the enemy by a lot.....his area of effect actually does have a radius.....and his little added spawned enemies will still come after you. When he does his super fast teleport attack thing or his big cone charge thing...if you are using an attack pet he will concentrate it on you but only while staying in melee with your pet.
As his Ai will make him try to hit both of you....thus allowing you to stay outside of his range of the attacks.

Like I said if this is the boss I think it is......this is one of the many bosses where you don't want to have a cleric pet.

Power without Perception is Spiritually useless and therefore of no true value.

    =^_^=

The red circle I can avoid, its the attack where he keeps following me faster than I can move then hits me for 1/4 of my life. It seems impossible to avoid this. In fact if I ever stand still I get hit by this attack. I tried a few more times and have quite often died within 10 seconds of me running out of dodge stamina and using a heal pot. The boss is (if I recall,) a wolf being ridden by something. Its not a large boss, about the same size as my tiefling cleric.

I feel your pain on this guy - the leap attack is fine to avoid, but his regular hits do a lot of damage too and until he is knocked off his mount, he is too fast to avoid chaining pots. This is the boss i got 1 shot from full health from a leap crit lol. I would suggest getting a hand with this fight, or waiting til u hit 60 so u can use the 8.5k pots. I did manage to solo him at about 58, but i died numerous times and would constantly only have a sliver of life waiting for the pot to come off cooldown. Your companion will get 2 shot - accept it and adjust your play accordingly. He is easier once he gets knocked off the warg, which was about 2/3 life if i remember properly. He still hits as hard, but he aint as fast.

FYI: Tiefling racial quest so most people won't have seen the fight too.

If you really want it, come back later. I tried it at 60 (DC, heal spec) and after 4 or 5 fails, many injury kits and pots used, I called it a day. 50% is where he gets knocked off his mount and the big hits stop, I got very very close, but even with Chains as a cc and forgemasters flame to slow him, a mix of 60 purple and blue gear he would still just slide up to me and 2 shot me (after 1 shotting my defense runed tank companion). I had enough of that area in general, so I just left it. I advise just moving on.

Can you invite a dps on this fight and just keep them healed? I have found not so much an issue killing things, but the time it takes clerics to clear an area (wraithgate etc). I usually just grab a meatshield and go in.
