Basically im just leveling him on up as I felt fit pretty much. Im level 24, im not having any issues persay but im just trying to get my center here and see if I can figure out where im going.

How are you guys mainly leveling up your wiz? Because im not sure which stats are to focus on, I realize builds probably have something to do with it but all I want to do is just blow things up, not looking for anything fancy with my CW just pure dmg.

Is power the main stat I want to gun for? Crit?

Im not sure if this means im on the right track or if I should be doing better but im doing pretty good with the charts once they pop up after dungeons or what have you, was in a dung with a few people higher than me, a level 28 or 29 and they had about 500k dmg and I was there at about 450k at level 22.

So im not sure if that means I just need to stay the course or what, but basically looking to get a feel of what you guys are doing with your CWs.

Im loving it btw, cant get enough of that combat!

I'm not an expert, but I also play CW, and I think good stats to aim for are Critical and Recovery. Critical for the obvious damage increase, but also Recovery because it lowers the timers on Encounter spells (which really helps). Deflection is relatively good also, along with Defense/or Armor Penetration. It all really varies on what build your going for. Placing points in the right feats are also critical to your build, I had to go back and spend AD on re-placing them.

I'm sure fellow CW players can put in better input than I.

Thanks for the reply Lyrica. What is your build like currently, are you going with ice any?

I am currently stacking points in damage and control. I ended up choosing Thaumaturge as my paragon path. I had already stacked a bunch of feat points in control options, but needed to up my damage. I am going for a 50-50 mixture so that my group gets a well-rounded effort on my part. (:

I am leaning more Ice, than Arcane. I feel Ice does more damage-over-time than Arcane. But everyone's different ^^

For leveling your gona want to run chill strike in tab, shield, force choke, repel. Focus on power first , then Crit then armor pen on your gear. Power your quests and lvling goes quick. I went 1-60 ~ 25 hours just doing quests. Keep you shield up at all times, chill strike in tab will usually wip lower mob packs , force coke the higher hp mobs and gun em down. Also don't be afraid to stunlock larger mobs with the stun off chill strike into force choke combo. Hope that helps. Also if your going pvp route I have a nice guide up of builds and skills in this forum. Enjoy.

My wizard never learned the beauty that was chill strike on tab when leveling up, I always had conduit of ice on tab for a sustained, larger aoe that stacked chill, so as things slowly ran up to me I just used sudden storm to take them all out.

Like harming said, use Entangling Force to hold mobs with more hp, however I end up replacing it with steal time by the time I get that to rank 3 since it acts as an aoe dmg and stun.

Shield is always good, especially if you burst it right before singularity sucks mobs into its black hole, for the knockback will be canceled by singularity's pull and you'll get off some extra damage that way since shield's burst has no target limit, it'll also help refill you AP, then just sudden storm/tabbed chill strike/conduit of ice the group as they land.

As far as topping the charts go, CW's mastery of aoe dps helps a lot in letting you top the charts in the early levels, but CWs do specialize in aoe dps, and being able to nuke mobs and keep them off the cleric is great, CW is a control class and that's part of the "control". Rogues are a striker class and excel at single target, and will most likely be top DPS most of the time, while I'm sure with the right build and gear you could beat rogues, its not usually what CW ends up doing in group dungeon settings in 60 dungeons. Meaning, being at the top is awesome, but don't expect to stay there unless you are specifically trying hard to do so.

That is still one thing ill never get in mmos these days with rogues. I understand them being powerful, but i always look at it as a tradeoff system when you break it down. And you take a wizard, with almost no armor, no stealth, all they do is just blow things up and yet rogues with stealth, better armor are just the insane dps machines.

I just always felt that a magic class that does only one thing, damage, should always be pretty much tops in damage department. Even in other games i always felt this way since the trade off is pretty much having no stealth or armor better than cloth, know what i mean?

But alas that's another topic ;)

There will be magic users that are DPS machines, Control Wizard is just not meant to be.

The upcoming-who-knows-when-exactly Warlock class is a magical striker class, so they are basically the magic DPS class.

Quick question that's ot from the thread, but I don't want to open a new thread on it elsewhere. But I bought the guardian of neverwinter pack, will I receive that title on the forums? And in game im not seeing it above my character, is it something that I wont see personally?

I have noticed the range of damage when partying with Rogues. It is quite staggering in the differences! I usually rank above the cleric in damage every time, Haha! Thank you for the advice on move order! I've been struggling with that for awhile. I usually have Sudden storm on tab, then I chill strike/shield push for the finishing damage. I'll attempt that when I run another dungeon.

PvP is where I struggle horribly. I can never keep rogues off me long enough to pop controls. I usually die within 30 seconds 1v1.

My CW is 49 now. Once you get the cleric, its a breeze. Most of the time you can just face tank groups of mobs and burn them down. At 49, this is still pretty much the case, and only a few quest bosses have been pushing it (In fact alot of cases you'll be gimping yourself by avoiding damage, as it just take longer to kill stuff). And my CWs gear straight up suX. Quest/drops with zero enchants.

Imo the shield isnt really worth a whole lot. Even maxed, it doesnt seem to take all that much to knock it down. Also, youre trading the spot for more offence, and dead mobs tell no tales (nor hit you in the face).

Singularity is great for setting up aoe burst, or getting a little room to heal up or res your companion.

Sudden storm I simply amazing imo. It has a very narrow cone yes, but it does quite alot of damage (even in a 1v1). And from what I can tell it doesnt have a loft on how many targets it can hit (which makes it insanely amazing). Did I say it also have a pretty short cd? I would tab this if it wasnt for chill strike sucking w/o it.

Chill strike in tab for aoe. Whats to say, it works.

Conduit of ice helps with aoe or burn down single targets faster. Untabed the aoe is pretty narrow tho =/.

    Entangling force or later timeslow.

Once I get avalanche, im prolly gonna swich it with conduit of ice... but lets see.

This is from a solo leveling standpoint, but I wouldnt change either of the about for a crappy shield that goes down in one or two hits.
