I'm trying to enjoy Blacklake right now, but it's not easy. The reason is quite simple.
"Hi, do you know..."
"Blacklake district is a dangerous place."
"Thanks for the warni..."
"I can not guarantee your safety beyond this point."
"Thanks again, but I was wondering..."
"Blacklake district is a dangerous place."
"You already said that."
"Blacklake district is a dangerous place."
"Yes, I know, you already..."
"I can not guarantee your safety beyond this point."
"I know! You already t..."
"Blacklake district is a dangerous place."
But if someone finds it distracting, they can under the Options/Audio reduce the volume of Voice slightly, and also Mute Voice After Dialogue to prevent unwanted repetition.
These two options should take the edge off - heh - for players who are drinking too much coffee.
You would do well to invoke the favor of the Gods.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev
Every time I went to unload loot in the camp with the female dwarf in Blackdagger I felt the urge to jab my ears repeatedly with the sharpest object I could see.
agreed. And please! For the love of Shar, please change the music in Sky Pirates Hold! Sounds like freakin' circus music, only slightly more depressing and annoying.
Sometimes it's a lot of fun, last area in Hotenow reading the miserable chat raging about the glowy line running into walls, area too hard, people LFG solo content etc etc and there's Surveyor Baera on the loop:
"If you can't take the heat, get out of the volcano"

But I'm not interested in switch off all voices. Most of them are pretty good, especially for a free game. It's just the same two or three lines repeating over and over and over I don't like. Plus, they are repeated after only a few seconds. Why not repeat them every 30 seconds, or every minute? Why ever five seconds?
Yes, we can mute the dialogue after conversation, but again, that's not the problem. The problem are all the idle voices of NPCs in the background we don't even talk to. So if we could somehow mute idle NPCs, everything would be fine.
Agree. Reduce it from every 2 seconds, to every minute. Don't eliminate altogether, I like the character and flavor it brings to the game. But reduce it to once every 1 minute or 2 minutes should be fine.
It's getting to the point where i cannot even concentrate on what I'm typing to my guildmates, or even when trying to select a new skill, or equip a new item.
You can turn down the voice from the settings - "Voice Volume".
Or, if you're honestly THAT lazy, just hit the dash key each time they come up -- like it tells you in the damned TOOLTIP.
That's totally not even the same thing. The OP isn't talking about the quest dialogue but about the constant "idle" dialogue that the NPCs spout over and over and over every 8 seconds. As far as I am aware you don't get a dash key option for that sort of thing.
Also the downside of muting NPC voice is that you don't hear any of the quest dialogue. However I can live with that if it keeps me sane.
1. in the custom HUD screen, there is a (seemingly) invisible square with 'Mute NPC Voice' - is this the programmed object for the '-' command?
2. i would formally request that NPC randomness be reduced (as it will be on go-live) but also if it could say other things. they could be random... but it would make things more interesting.

If you go into escape - options - audio - voice you can turn down/off the npc voices right there...
I doubt they are going to introduce an NPC mute, but the intervals between their announcement should be extended to perhaps a minute or more. While they are at it, do the same for pets and noisy mounts; roar, roar, roar. Put a muzzle on them please.

Don't you dare say anything bad about my coffee drinking!
this goes for any voiced effect in the game, from npc speech to simple jumping.

Those voices repeat every what, 5 seconds?
Could cheerfully kill a few "Underdark Explorers Guild " members, Duergar really are less annoying than the whiny * that do nothing about them...
What Class Are You?
