Runes and Enchantments

I can't get any enchantments to work on my equipment, how do I apply them?

Runes only seem to apply to companions - is that correct?
If I add the same rune to my companion twice, are the effects doubled?

    Does your equipment have an enchantment slot? If you're not high level, it might not.

    Yes, they are for companions. They generally stack, but the Eldritch one in a Defense slot (the one that gives you stat bonuses) doesn't unless you have two different ones (say a 7% and 8%, but two 8%s won't stack).

    I have many open slots but when I hold any runes or enchantments over them I get a big red X, I am level 37.

    That percentage stacking thing goes for every kind of percentage, stat bonuses from companions, gold income, glory accumulation, all of them.
