How dare you Cryptic/PWE! Another tanking pet?!?!

Current tanking mechanics

"You want to taunt the boss? OK put up a passive mark that goes away after your shield breaks during a power attack you can't dodge out of. What's that? You have powers to increase your guard meter? Well good luck with that because not only are those powers bugged and don't increase guard meter, they require you to lower your shield to use them. Oh yes, the boss hits you then and your mark disappears.

Oh yes, what's that other thing? Oh yeah, unless you spec dps, a defensive build can't generate enough threat to keep a mob's attention. Good luck with your GUARDIAN fighter."
Your players' solution

1) Get a second cleric (spam lf2 clerics tier 2 in chat!)
2) Get out tank pets.
3) Win.

If no 2nd cleric
1) Get a 2nd control wizard
2) Get out tank pets.
3) Rogue tanks boss.

Do you see the option that has a GF in it? No? Neither do I!!!

Cryptic/PWE's solution

"Hey guys, we know there are bugs right now and most of you tanks can't hold threat unless you spec dps. But hey the game is fun amiright or what? In the meantime, here is another tank pet you can buy from us that tanks great! Yeah we know this will only encourage parties not to take a GF, but hey the game is fun amiright?"

Quit. Insulting. Us. Please.

Don't release extra <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> in game that helps players get around broken mechanics (more tank pets etc)

Fix the broken/<font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> mark system, powers, and cleric healing agro first. No one cares or wants to hear if you say that's a different group that handles zen market stuff. It still ticks me off and you put in on the front page.

I realize you guys have made an effort to acknowledge bugs, but putting out yet another tank pet is a slap in the face to those expecting their class to be fixed first.

Being that it took an entire week for you to patch the exploiting, you have left the community in serious doubt of your competency. If you had to assign yourself a grade for the exploit debacle, could you honestly give yourself anything other than a F? (For Europeans, F = Failing grade)

Make me eat my words and fix this.

Thanks.

Ha! That's exactly what turns me away from playing A Guardian Fighter. The fact still remains you can't hold all the agro, you're pointless, so GTFO. Easily replace with a Weapon Fighter, and or Rogue, and or... Well actually replaced by everything.

I'm wondering how Cryptic managed to make the main class I'd assume to be looked at as a "Tank" build, and just destroyed it period. It's pretty hard to have any mmorpg without a "Tank". The only game which kinda successfully did that, was Guild Wars 2, but even then, A Guardian could pretty much tank if they wanted to in that game.

Tanks feel like they shouldn't even exist in this game as of now. At least, that's how I feel. I love their "Sweep Damage", and their skills are actually pretty cool. But if you wanna pull agro from a cleric, you're SoL. Taunt is on a far too long of a cooldown, and it pulls maybe (if you're lucky), 3 monsters off of somebody, in which case, come time for that next heal coming off, everything is yet again on the Cleric.

Of course, I haven't tested the waters with a Tank yet, so I haven't much room to speak, it's simply from what I've read, and experienced myself watching other tanks in my parties, as I stole all the agro with my 60 Rogue.

I have now tested 2 out of 3 paragon trees for GF, which has cost me money during this open beta despite massive amounts of bugs.

The conclusions are basically that the defensive feat tree doesn't function, and the tactician (control) tree effectively has no benefit, after I started parsing the combat logs.

The capstone in the dps tree works, but it is my suspicion that most of the other feats there are broken as well.

Your planning or at least thinking of doing a chargeback and engaging in Wire Fraud. What is it to you?

I'm still here and hoping this game gets fixes as I do believe in it. That doesn't mean I need to stick my head in the sand and drink kook-aid.

Doing a chargeback on an MMO isn't a wise idea and can get you in trouble. Asking for a refund has been known to work at various times and depending on how soon.

Well, I haven't decided on what to do but obviously asking for a refund is the first step, of which I have not done and hope to not have to.

That still doesn't eliminate the fact that there have been serious economic issues in a game that uses real money transfers, charging customers to avoid broken/nonfunctional content, as well as not identifying such content so the user would not be forced to pay money to avoid it, and finally my first post above which pertains to an intrinsic part of an online mmorpg that is non functional at launch.

As far as the open beta, if the cash shop is active, so is the game.

    Anyways, lets not digress.

As a cleric playing mainly solo content, I welcome the new tank pet.
Because I kind of need a tank, and the only tank pet is level capped at 15.
Though it would be most useful if the tank didn't stand still in front of life-drain spells.

Except that it costs $20, which is a bit steep for a single item, and the game's not in a state that I'm comfortable spending money on right now.

(And yeah the tank pet pulls a lot of agro, but I need it to out-agro me!)

I think it is great for squishies to have something like this, just it shouldn't be better than a player behind the keyboard

Use a DPS pet, you'll "tank" me lol

srsly tho, clerics in this game are not squishy to quest mobs or even normal dungeon mobs. DPS pet all the way man

wrong! As cleric, the best pet is the tank, he will pull the agrro away and while he get smashed i can stay full hp and dps from behind before my pet dies because while i dps i heal my tank as well!

I had a dps pet and he was doing awful, dieing so often that i got sick of it and put it at rest.... as well as the cleric that was gaining even more aggro on me.
Learn to play your class mate ;)

P.S. Btw i do most solo play and i hardly die.

Ya melee should grant more aggression. I have trouble taunting with my Great Weapon Fighter at times too.

Also the cleric companions pull way too much agro.

This game is broken beyond belief, almost every aspect of this game cries out of problems. From pets that die all the time, from the op topic where we see zero use for a GF at 60 because of the agro problem, because of "need" for everything, because of the exploits which destroys the economy and affect all players down to even the level 1 player, I doubt this game can be salvage and worse, this game offers no holds bar on leveling, you level so fast your head will spin and you find yourself at max level and having no more direction at all and losing interest fast.

Hopefully someone will address these concerns but Cryptic/PWE have no guts and find it easier to write "Hi guys! Thanks for the information we appreciate your input!"

Rather disappointing to roll up a defensive GF halfling and finding out halfway down the protective tree it's a useless char.
Not really an incentive to pay anything for playing. More like wasting time.

they are holding out on upgrading lesser companions while they are rolling out Zen ones. They want the impatient to get the 2000 zen one or the stone guy

Really wish more people had played STO, Cryptic/PWE do not give a **** about these bugs. They will only hotfix exploitable errors on their part, i.e the guardian 1shotkill bug, or anything to do with the zenstore. The AH and mail issues have been in STO since day 1, and they havn't even been arsed to fix the errors after copy & pasting them into Neverwinter. Same issues with them aswell.

Can't wait to see how long it takes them to keep churning out regular content updates, seeing as STO went a whole year without any major content updates.

To this day people are still farming the same borg stfs (instanced farm areas) since December 2011. So enjoy farming the current dungeons in game for the next year or two after their next large content update on release.

They'll most likely also release a guild shop you can upgrade by farming certain things as a guild, and in this shop will be as armor merchant which sells for insane amounts of AD with better stats than that which drops in dungeons.

Learn to play. If you suck as a guardian fighter you're not looking AT THE HELP THREADS IN THE COMBAT SECTION. Go look for Envy's or Roy's thread and learn to play.

Aggro is hard, but I tank dungeons every day very effectively and do just as much DPS as a GWF (Which is another issue all together). Anyone needing two clerics or saying GF isn't worth what it does clearly does not know any good ones or know how to play.

Those pets are worthless, they'll die in 2 seconds on any T1 or T2 boss in a dungeon. That's why most go with a non-combat pet because those boosts are worth more than any pet can give you.

Excuse me. They are specced dps in the conq. tree. The other two trees are completely broken.

And excuse me again but you have no idea what you are talking about. I have been through tier 2 now and guess what - the pets can still tank and don't croak. In fact, the stronger your cleric is, the more likely their tank pet will never die whatsoever.

Shoot, my stupid phoera pet survives most boss fights and I don't have a single piece of def gear on it.

You are trying to say that with excellent gear, as posted by mr exploiter himself, a GF can keep threat. Well no <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> of course they can.

Should you have to build your GF as dps though? It just doesn't make sense.

    What Bulll-shighte.

I've been in STO ever since open beta. MAJOR updates started within 3 months after official launch (and I mean content - not bug fixes, though those were continuous since first opening and continued non-stop). The mail system and "AD" bugs? Never were there. Ever. Though admittedly, Daniel Stahl taking over as lead producer is when the good started happening. As for Neverwinter? Looks like a Daniel Stahl-class producer already in place, someone who means business and that's nothing but good.

Trolls is as trolls does, I suppose.

A really GOOD TROLL would have said "Neverwinter is *already* on Champions-Online deathbed and it ain't even a month old, yet". Now that would have been a scary statement.
