PSA - How to rebind target lock to another key

Hello everyone, after taking some time testing commands, I've finally discovered how to replicate holding down Ctrl with another button.

Example using Right Mouse Button: /bind RButton +HardTargetLock

HardTargetLock 1 will lock onto the target, HardTargetLock 0 will return control to you. +HardTargetLock will lock onto the target while the key is pressed, and return control when the key is released.

I hope that helps!

(I have also posted this on Reddit.)

Ah, someone commented on Reddit that using ++HardTargetLock will turn it into a toggle! That might help some folks. :)

I tried to lock it to my Mouse Button 5 as toggle cuz with my mouse it would be sweet to have a lock target toggle at the tip of my finger.
The command doesn't seem to work. Is there a console or a way in which i should format the command? Cuz i tried /bind Mouse Button 5 ++HardTargetLock and no response. =\
    Help?

I have tried this and cant seem to get it to work. I attempted to bind to several different buttons, but it still remains bound to control.

I don't think "Mouse Button 5" is the correct name for the keybind. You need to know what the game calls it, otherwise you're binding the command to a non-existent key.

Go into the in-game Keybind options, and bind something to Mouse 5. Then use /bind_save_file filename.txt to export it. Open the newly created file, and you'll see all the new/changed keybinds, one of which will be for Mouse5. Use that as the variable. It's best to make a unique file name if you don't know where your install directory is, as it will be easier to find.

It won't unbind control unless you actually unbind control, but assuming you're putting in a legitimate button for the bind, the new button should work.

To reiterate, the following will not do anything:
    /bind RightButton +HardTargetLock
    /bind Right Mouse +HardTargetLock
    /bind RMB +HardTargetLock

That's because neither RightButton, Right Mouse, or RMB are recognized by Neverwinter.

Only /bind RButton +HardTargetLock will bind it to your right mouse button, because Neverwinter knows what RButton is. This is code we're dealing with, you need the right variable or it won't do anything.

Just to confirm, this definitely works. So

    /bind Lctrl ++HardTargetLock

will set the the usual left control button to toggle target lock. Or obviously any other button you decide to substitute in.

Try just simply Button5. I have Button5 bound to "+up" to jump and Button4 bound to "InteractAndLoot" (normally F in game) and those correspond to the 2 thumb buttons on my mouse. The extra buttons on the mouse and how they are recognized by the system is usually controlled by your mouse driver. So you might check there, if just using generic ButtonX doesn't work, to see how they are mapped.

Where in the install directory is the new file placed?
