It's taking so long cause its BETA. But be prepared to pay for that book with $$$ once it gets released of which should have been released with a LIVE game.

Well it can be found in the in-game vendor so I presume it's gonna cost AD. But you're right.. it's gonna cost buckets.
Dev says no plans atm..but definitely in the works .... translation: we want to sell our premium cash shop companions first.
That is the knee jerk response, but if you think about it, they could charge whatever they want for those books. They could charge the same amount of money for an epic training manual as they are for an epic companion, and they would still sell. People would rather upgrade their favorite companion than pay for a new one. So the theory that these books are being withheld simply to force us to buy Zen companions simply doesn't add up.
What bugs me most is the lack of healer companions. There is only the one that I can tell, and she's capped at 15.
The Zen store has a Kelemvor Cleric for 20 bucks, but she was terrible when I tried her in Beta, and last I heard still is.

Also the Beta argument is not valid, this is far and away not an "open beta". The companion upgrades books were available in the real beta and taken out in the tacked on last closed beta before soft launch.
This is a focus on trying to push the zen store.

That's not a healer companion, if you read the description, despite the word "Cleric" in the name.

normal companions are fine for lvling, i find striker companions pretty useless better get tank or cleric for normal companions, once u hit high lvls or end game u going want augment pet more the buff stats alone u want more anything, basically cat or alluna stone are best companions u can get, lvling them at lower lvls just makes life easier.
cat gives crit and recovery aura on top items they equip as aura, stone has same including power also.
cat lvl 25, 255 recovery and crit
stone lvl 25, 255 recovery, crit and power
that doesn't include items u can equip that turns into aura so u can slot in power, defense, armor pen, etc.

Me too. I hope it can be purchased for gold, so we can have something else to do with that currency.
