How to tab(target) who you want to heal?

I am mostly likely missing something or just do not get it, as I have only really played DDO, so maybe not being able to tab or have some sort of hot key to scroll through or target who you need to heal is normal for most mmos?

Is there a way to do this now?

The issue I was having, and again this was the last beta I believe, I could see players health going down, and wanted to do some sort of direct heal, and for the most part could not accomplish this if they were in the middle of mobs with out alt outing and mouse-ing over to the party list in the upper right.

This can not be WAI? Please let me know how to fix this, as I love playing healers, but with the lack of direct heals, if I have to to use the "alt out" method to target players, I am just not good enough with a keyboard to accomplish this.

You can lock a target in with CTRL (there's a thread here somewhere on how to rebind it). But for the most part, this action MMORPG benefits healers that specialize in AE healing, and if someone needs a heal, they use a potion.

You can't target enemies or friends in this game as easily as you can in other MMOs. I'd say stop thinking about being a healer in more traditional MMOs. Clerics in Neverwinter or more about stacking heal over time, temporary health pools, defensive buffs -- all combined with AOE damage spells. I think you'll find few experienced Clerics using Healing Word (or whatever that direct heal is called). Just keep popping those AOEs, hit TAB whenever you've got a + of Divinity, and hit those AOE encounter powers. It's more about prevention than directly healing injured team mates.

Seems to be pretty much the case, I'd say a Divine Forgemaster's Flame heals more than Healing word can. Bastion of Health is a better being an AoE burst heal and there is Astral Shield which is apparently very useful tho I need a level up to experience that (one more round of PvP and I'll possibly get that). Currently I also use sunburst, I'll admit it's not great as healing goes but it's great for building Divinity which is needed for the forgemaster's flame and that IS worth it.

The only place I find Healing Word useful is PvP, since the multiple ticks can help proc Cleanse more on allies which is useful to cast on fighters facing up against classes like Control Wizards and Rogue. But I'll probably end out subbing it out completely once I have astral shield. I think healing word should have been an AoE regen since it's a bit of a black sheep as it currently stands.

Also if you were to get stuck somewhere with low health it may help to regen health but then I have alters as well... a lot of them... and it doesn't really hurt me to proc one if I ever find myself in that situation even if the healing from them is sluggish at higher levels.

Bastion of Health, Astral Shield (with divine) and Forgemaster's Flame (with divine) will give you some great options for group healing. I typically have at least 2 of this in play, personally I like Astral Shield and Forgemaster's Flame but its a more active role as you need to keep your divine bar up for healing with them.

As the others have said, direct healing is very challenging for several reasons.
We do not have any direct burst heals
Pugs are horrible mostly because they do not know the mechanics of the cleric and think "oh healer" without understanding what a DC really is
You will have to mouseover the player in question. In a heated battle you have no time to alt out. As mentioned, if you press ctrl while on a player it will stay on her/him and not jump to whoever jumps in front of your target. That might help a bit.

What I found helps a bit in pugs in regards to more direct heals:
Put Word of healing on the group members that you noticed being in most danger of losing health in chunks. Prestacking gives you a bit of time to find them again in the heat of battle.

But again, if they stupidly stand in BIG RED circles of doom they better prepare to use potions and if they are stupid enough to not flank on the other side of the tank and run around like headless chickens...again, they deserve to pay for their potions.

i really don't like bastion of health simply because the recharge time is god damned long. sun burst will almost always heal for as much as bastion of health will, since, it recharges much faster. iirc, you can almost get two casts of sun burst off before bastion recharges once.

if they just reduced the cool down on bastion of health down a few seconds, it'd be a much better and more useful spell.

As a rogue teaming in the later levels I found direct heals weren't necessary at all but if you want to make your team happy drop the blue circle in the tough battles (not sure what it's called).

Yeah I'm a DDO player. I think I know what you mean. As far as I can tell there is only soft targeting in this game so I am paying way more attention to my cursor location, trying to detect the very slight colour change when something offensively or healing targeted and then hitting Ctrl. I have yet to get the hang of this but it's been amusing to try.

The MMO may change but the inventory tetris stays the same.
