So mistakes and screw ups are to be expected.
Fair enough.
Cryptic is allowed to make mistakes.

So why do they get to charge me $6.00* to fix mine?

*Since you can't buy six dollars in zen directly, you have to pay a minimum of ten dollars.

EDIT for Clarity: This is entirely rhetorical. I know why they are doing it.
This thread is really just a reaction to all those people here who shout "BETA!" at any criticism, as if they truly believe that after all of this time, Cryptic is even remotely interested in feedback.

My point is, that if it's expected for Cryptic to make mistakes, then shouldn't it stand to reason that the players, who know even less about the systems than Cryptic (thanks for the vague tooltips!), should be allowed some manner of leniency when it comes to mistakes too?

Why are people defending Cryptic and treating them with kid gloves, but not themselves or fellow players?

Because the only way to respec is through the Zen store. Dont like it? Dont use it.

Perhaps you don't get it - if a game is in "Beta" as the devs and much of the website claims, hammering out issues with the game should be on the devs. To entice players to the game with an "Open Beta", yet charge real money at the same time, is dubious at best, and an outright con at worst...

You came into the game knowing they had a cash shop. Its no con at all. And this is a Open Beta which is little better then a long stress test

That was impressive! I was wondering, are there any other points that you're thinking about missing tonight? I'd love to stick around and watch you work.

    Strike two!
Exactly my point! Its a beta, mistakes happen so why am I expected to pay for mine, when the system is already prone to change and problems?
Also why am I being charged at all for this? I knew there was a cash shop. Everyone did. Are you seriously trying to contort my post into this nonsense?

Do you even know what you're arguing about?

There is no point that is being made, only another person *****ing about respec costs and their misinformed though on what an Open Beta must be. Things change, this Open Beta they are charging people for using the cash shop which is not in beta. This is little more then a longer stress test.

There is a point being made, it's actually a really good one. If you paid attention to anything but "BAD MAN SAY GAME BAD. BAD MAN SAY PBOAR BAD!" you may have actually been able to formulate an intelligent response. Rather than the pathetic strawman fallacy you crapped out.

So you're just another page one reactionary fanboy showing up to display your brown nose and defend the company of business men who don't care about you, like a battered housewife. Anything else to add, before I stop caring what you have to say?

Because this game is a cash grab that is all it is. They couldn't give a flying monkey about all the bugs and exploits which is pretty obvious with how long it's taking them to fix huge game breaking problems, but hey new items in the Zen store almost daily.

Not that I'm going to argue with that.
This post was for all the fanboys here, who defend every bit of criticism, by shouting "BETA"! As if its some kind of magic wand that erases scrutiny.

I'm not arguing that this game is in beta, or not. My point is, that if people are going to defend Cryptic's right to make mistakes without taking any heat, then they don't have any right to charge me for mine.

Wow your belitting powers have....no effect on me. Congrats for trying though. Make your point then and watch it be disputed to hell. Or do you not know how discussions work? Not everyone needs to agree with every gold covered HAMSTER you spit out of your mouth.

I know, I was being rhetorical. I know exactly why its being done. Like you said, a cash grab.
I knew that much from their pathetic CBT period, or selling closed beta access and only holding it on a few weekends as publicity stunts. That already told me they don't care about feedback.

This game is live. They are just using it being in open beta as an excuse for the problems in the game. If there is no character wipe at the end of open beta, then it is not open beta.

Even if the game were live (wink) you would still have to pay $10 for your respec. Just wait till 60, convert some AD to zen (and do some surveys) and you can get the 600 zen without paying $10.

even in a beta that has no cash shop like in WoW for instance you cant ask them to respec youd have to use your gold here its cash shop. your mistake is your problem. so thats that

oh and btw id rather it be AD or in game gold for respecs myself

You're right though, my golden mouth turds aren't for everyone.
But if you're going to even attempt to argue with me, you better at least polish the **** that comes out of your mouth. Rather than the HAMSTER covered turds that are your logical fallacies.

Here I'll take your own stupid advice and regift it to you.

Nah, I'm done bashing you. You're doing a much better job of invalidating your position here. Why bother?

Actually, since my question was rhetorical, and I really wasn't making any kind of verifiable statement, I'd really love to hear what, exactly, was proven incorrect.

You don't even understand what the point of this thread was. How can you possibly prove it incorrect?

Aren't rant threads against the TOS? I can understand giving criticism, questioning why things are the way they are but a thread this loaded with sarcasm and dripping vitriolic venom should simply be flushed by a moderator.

If you can keep your current character as is with no wipe, you can get your char to MAX level, everyone person in the world has access to the game, you can spend money in the game, sounds like a launch to me, they can play word games and legalisms and semantics all they want, but if the only thing seperating the beta and the launch is the actual words themselves, something is wrong.

I thought that "Open Beta" meant something, too, and fought adamantly for the defense, but after finding out that Cryptic does not plan to wipe characters after this "beta" it suddenly occurred to me that this isn't a beta in the least.

Beta used to mean another testing phase, now it's another buzz word used by developers to release their buggy game with an excuse. Having a cash shop during beta would be pathetically ridiculous if it weren't for the fact that there's a no wipe clause, so don't expect anything to get fixed.

Just enjoy the game for what it is. Welcome to Perfect World, folks. The name is the biggest oxymoron this side of gaming.

Identifying my opponent as a person who lacks any and all objectivity based on actions that he has repeated ad nauseum on these boards, isn't an ad hominem fallacy. Because to pboar, it doesn't matter how much proof, or convincing arguments you shove in his face, he doesn't care.

It's an accusation made with plenty of evidence, and I realized that trying to argue with someone so biased, is impossible.

Besides, I can argue my point without doing so. pboar is incapable of such. Calling him a fanboy was merely an explanation as why he's here. Not my argument itself. His entire argument was a logical fallacy. Mine was not.

Path of Exile had a closed beta where most of that is true. They didn't wipe closed beta accounts, they still had cash shop during closed beta, they had open weekends in which players could still keep their characters, people could easily buy into closed beta. All they did between closed beta and open is to relegate all old characters into a legacy server, and created a new one. It's still an option here, for open beta characters to be relegated into a legacy shard, and open another shard for live.

Its very simple, when it comes to bugs exploits etc it is open beta so they can say we are working on it and have it be plausible sensible but like wise they still want your cash so when it comes to zen and other zen related things like respecs there is no wipe so therefore they can act like it was not open beta and still have that be sensible by their logic.

    It's win/win for them.
