How do you overlap rooms for a multifloor effect?

I've been skimming through all of the tabs in the foundry, the FAQs and manual, forum posts, etc. I cannot figure out how to create multiple floors for an interior map without using prefabs. Prefabs would be fine if they weren't overkill. There's an entire freaking inn and a medium house with several rooms. I just want a one room cottage with an accessible attic or basement.

I've tried adjusting the height of hallways and rooms, but I always get an error telling me to fix the overlap. If I use prefabs, would I have much success using walls to block off areas I don't want without it looking unnatural? What if I create an outdoor map and use stairs and floor panels. Has anyone tried this?

Can't make multi floor rooms. Others have taken tall rooms and built additional floors, but no pre-made stuff.

    This is incorrect.

There are several sets of staircases in the editor, as well as pathways and floorboards. Change the Y axis to raise them up and down. You may have to construct floor plans from scratch for some rooms. I'm not sure if you can change the Y axis on pre-generated rooms or not. All of my multi-level plans have been built from 1 extremely tall room, staircases, and pathways.

Thanks for expanding on what I meant. Others have built multi level rooms, but no pre-made stuff.

However, I was incorrect. After looking at it and trying it out, you can, in fact, change the Y axis on pre-made rooms, using them to create multi-level dungeons.

The problem with that is then trying to create doorways into those rooms. If you increase the Y value of one room higher than the other, it will not create a door that can be opened/walked through.

This may work in an Exterior map, but I don't think it will be possible to combine multiple prebuilt rooms at various levels in an an Interior map.

You can definitely use a large prebuilt room and create a second floor with stairs/etc leading up to it, however.

Hmm. That's a bummer. Are there some really tall hallways? :P

I've been experimenting with using different unconnected rooms and using a telporter over a ladder object to link them to give the impression of multifloor rooms.

The only thing I've been running into is I can't find a proper quest objective to direct them to take the ladder. Anyone have any thoughts?

Yep. Make a dialogue objective, and place the ladder as the objective.

I just wish there were more Filters, the hard part about multiple teared rooms is keeping track of everything "the 2d editor is definitely not optimized for density" :/

So is it possible to make dungeons similar to DDO's that have multiple levels and floors without using teleporters or zones? That's one thing I've kind of missed from DDO is how vertical and 3D many of their dungeons are. Exploring dungeons there makes you feel like you're in a 3D maze. The few Foundry missions I've tried all seem to have a single plane.

I haven't explored all the pre-made content yet but the Spell plague quest where you go into Rhazzad's (sp?) tower had multiple levels you had to climb/drop to. So is that only capable by Cryptic, or can the Foundry do that too?

Player made maps can definitely do this, but it's not easy and most authors haven't figured it out yet, or don't feel it would be worth the time to assemble.
It's much easier to just create a map transition to the next floor, but there are definitely situations where it's rewarding to do it the hard way.

Hmm, ok that's good to know! Since you said most authors haven't figured it out yet, what's the secret? I was playing around a tiny bit in the Foundry so I'm sure there are a ton of things I haven't tried doing yet.

You would have to literally construct each room yourself. Floor, walls, ceilings ect. Then you would have to add stairs/walkways what have you. Finally you have to play with the Y values of all the objects to try and get everything leveled out. lots of copy pasting of the Y values haha. Remember to set everything to "Zero Altitude"

Keep in mind that there's a certain old game charm to having a map with various 'floors' laid out and teleporters going back and forth -- reminiscent of module maps!

That said, constructing maps carefully, piece by piece, seems the way to go if you must have some more dimension.
