Level 37 cleric. Should I finish or reroll?

I know I might get some troll or flame for this post but I am kinda flustered and need some feedback.

As many of us know or learn we are not a healer class. I admit that took me more than I thought to learn. So now that I have that I have seen that we have quite a few of our feats broken or bugged to not work as stated. So my big question is:

Should I keep playing my cleric?

I honestly have seen a decline in our presence in the server, I am on Dragon, and I hate having to explain to EVERY to party I am in that I am not a healer. Do we get better in end game? Am I missing something to this class?

I admit that I have played many other MMO where the Cleric / Priest are healers and I am use to that, but with our -40% to our own heals and the fact that we really are not healers in the normal sense of the word I am just wondering if I am beating my head on the proverbial wall and should reroll or just stay the course and get to 60.

Any helpful feedback would be more than welcome. Thank you for your time.

This really depends upon you. If you're worried about PVE, clerics work. Many of their feats don't, but that goes for every class (except for possibly TR). You'll just have to build for off-tanking and de-buffing more than heals. I honestly don't think they are totally fubar - so a lot of the noise (while valid) isn't as bad as it seems.

So, you really have one of three routes:

    1. Level to max level, then park and wait for balances to be done.

    2. Stop now, roll TR (because that's the only class without issues), and eventually ditch that when they nerf it to uselessness.

    3. Play some other class, and experience the same "issues" that DC run into.

As far as "there are issues with other classes", I'm not exaggerating. Half of the CW's feats plain don't work with the abilities they should work with. A number of the key feats for GWF aren't affecting the abilities they need to, to make this class a killing machine, or at least a decent off-tank. The GF has a whole thread of stuff that doesn't work.

It's really a pick your poison, unless you roll trickster rogue. I personally think TR is only considered "OP" because the class feats and abilities actually work as they are supposed to. If they fixed all the feats for the other classes, rogues might be crying.

You could do what I did and make a second DC built around the idea of CC/DD.Gear up with critical/recovery/defense.

Forget the agro management passives and work on action point gain and recovery.

DC do fine solo with a CC/DD specced build. There are a few good guides in this forum section, have a look. =)

If you're looking for the 'stand in the back green bar whack-a-mole' healer experience, reroll now.

If you are looking for a solid class that is required in epic dungeons then there is nothing wrong with the cleric.

There are definitely bugs and other issues with the game but the biggest issue is people trying to play a cleric like a healbot instead of playing the game is it is designed. Quit fighting the game and things go much better. Also, make good friends with a competent CW.

We are a healer class, even at low level.

The game changer you are looking for is Astral Shield. I haven't hit 60 yet, but all DCs that I know and all builds I have seen (there are possibly some that I haven't) have AS as the anchor of their build. For me personally (lvl 54) I was already doing ok solo, but AS has been like hitting an easy button. So I would suggest that if you like the class at all to push on

Yes when you get Astral Shield at 50 you are a healer. Until then use divinitied Forgemasters Flame as your main heal.

We are a healer class, but you need to think differently about how we heal.
Gone are the days of single target healing. It's about balancing out heals and debuffs. The best tool in your healing arsenal is about 13 levels away. Once you have it, it does become a game changer and will once again enjoy playing a cleric.

You will attract the agro, so your party needs to assist you. I make this clear to my groups before a boss fight, that you need protection. Sometimes it takes a wipe to get them on board with that thought process, as dps loves to tunnel the boss.
This game though pretty much throws that convention out. So a lot if about adapting.

I have to be honest when I started I was super frustrated myself, but realised that I had to change to make this work.
Not frustrated anymore, now I am absolutely loving the intensity of the boss fights.

How are we not a healer class? I guess non of you claiming the DC is not a healer class has played an Enchanter in Aion or a Templar in EQ2, for example? Not every healer has a full heal burst heal spec or relies on direct healing. I enjoy my cleric immensely and love the mitigation HOT based game-play :)

I also seriously love how it makes you think and keep certain skills up for mitigation instead of having the "I save the day with one click-button".

I had thought from the very beginning that I would play a GF or CW mostly (and I have those characters made), but I ended up leveling a DC first becuse of what my friends where playing and they needed a healer.

I have never had any problem keeping them alive, and what is said above is true, once you get Astral Shield the game changes. Building my cleric based on Unspecified's tanking cleric build (it's referenced in the best builds thread) I have seldom enjoyed healing this much in a game; it's hectic, you need to move, cast a lot and pay attention to the battefield - not to mention that currently in the early epic dungeons I can tank several adds easily without worry.

What you need to remember is that DC are not direct healers like en other MMOs, we focus on damage prevention (with added regeneration) and the splash heals based on damage DoTs (Flamemasters Forge). We only really have two direct healing spells (one HoT and one AoE heal, and those are subpar compared to the others)

As mentioned already, once you get Astral Shield, everything changes in regards to the perception of the devoted cleric as a healer. However, while Astral Shield does heal (and so does Forgemaster's Flame, which should be your go-to heal until Astral Shield, and sometimes even after), a lot of your contribution to groups come in buffs, from feats that increase your group's stats, to Astral Shield's flat damage mitigation, so think of the cleric as a buffer aswell as a healer. But still, with Astral Seal, Astral Shield and Forgemaster's Flame, you can save your friends a lot of healing potions!
    "Bring me my Bow of burning gold;
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!"

Im level 48 and I just ran the dungeon in ice peak. Its starting to become Really fun, I dont even have Astral Shield yet but having access to invirogated healing and moon touched is making a difference. I can't wait to get Astral Shield. I dont use Forgemaster's Flame , I use Bastion of Health, lots of people aer saying forgermaster flame is betting but i found that the fact that I can target anywhere with a very good AoE healing is better for my playstyle. + I want to keep those divinity for Sun Burst and Astral Shield.

Im now healing in dungeon for maybe 500% to 1000% what other heal. ( I dont know if that take in account potion use by those player, I dont think so).

Im loving the fact that we are half buffer, half healer.

People really need to start using acronyms right, where you spell the words first and then use the acronym in subsequent uses.

WTF is a DD cleric. Divine Damage? Damage Dealing? I've tried searching for Neverwinter Cleric DD and I come up with results like Everyone wants to just DD the boss (I'm assuming direct damage here?) or DD for Dwarven Defender (obviously not applicable to a cleric). And a whole bunch about Direct Downloading the game.

I just got to the map with all the wights in it. Where you have to talk to the ghost guy. I'm 34 .My companion lasts about 1 minute if I get multiples. The wights summon gobs of zombies that rush me. I end up running in a circle dropping aoe and trying to stop long enough to put some dps on the wight that's summoning everything. It's just not very fun after the first couple times.

I'm in the same situation Skalt112....I have to pop so many potions to stay alive in this area and it is seriously frustrating. So I try to find other people in the area and try to kill the same stuff they are so I can stay alive!
