I'm at work, and they freak out on any torrenting since there's been issues in the past. I had a problem with it while installing, but my question is now that it's installed, does the launcher use a torrenting process at all, or is it a direct download?
Wat.
Your work freaks out about torrents, but doesn't care that you're playing an MMO?

Haha, as long as my work is done they don't. They had issues with people illegally torrenting before, and do not discriminate on them now.

Pretty sure if you download their installer it uses peer to peer. If you download one of the full installs from one of the mirrors I don't think it uses peer to peer then. If the patcher uses peer to peer there should be an option to turn it off.
So I THINK you should be able to download one of the full installs, open the patcher, turn off peer to peer, and you'd be good. If you download only their small installer that then downloads the game.. yeah that for sure uses peer to peer. Although maybe even that has an option to disable the peer to peer.
I might be wrong in all that, but that's what I seem to recall.
So I just downloaded the "Direct Download" installer, but it's uploading as much as it's downloading. This is a major issue for me as I am on ancient DSL (1.5 down), my ISP throttles torrents, and I'm limited to 150GB/mo. Can anyone tell me what's going on? How do I make this "Direct Download" stop uploading?
And can someone confirm that turning off Peer2Peer in the patcher actually works? I've played a PWE title before where it was just a lie, and I can't play games that require P2P. Would rather not waste the bandwidth if it's the case here as well.

This would be really good to know. I work IT on a University Campus. We have folks come with complaining that they've been put into Peer-2-Peer redirect (and kicked off the campus wireless) when their MMO clients need patching. Even Blizzard (who gives an option to turn off P2P updates, still seem to use P2P when updating their launcher utility.) Would be nice to see a tech note from PWE detailing how their updater works. Our students are getting to the point where they're afraid to game because too many trips to campus redirect can get them kicked off the network permanently.
