What is the point of PvP?

I played my first PvP arena over the weekend.

What is that all about?

I got Buffed to 29th level. No upgrades to my stats that I could tell. No improvements to my skills. Run out, engage the enemy. Die, run out and do it again, and again, and again, and again!

My team eventually won, but what did We win? What was the point? It was really quite boring.
Allow me to introduce myself, I am P'zzd Achu.

Its a skirmish game where you pit your skill, teamwork, positioning, and knowledge of other classes against real players. There is no point other than that.

Some people find it extremely exciting, heart pounding, and addictive, others don't like it.

    To kill people ofcourse.

Just like the point of fps is to shoot / kill people.

The point of pvp in a mmo is to kill people with swords / spells etc.

There is no point. PvP is basically an afterthought that they threw in to appease the widest base of players possible. It's mostly used by people who want to pretend it has a point or by people exploiting it for gear (for their chars or to sell).

The point of PvP is to afk until you have enough gear score to run T2/Castle Never, duh!

If you simplify it like that everything is pointless. Including sports. Which is actually kind of true. Everything is pointless if you don't enjoy it. PVP has no point for someone that doesn't enjoy it. For those that do it has a point. It's fun.

So Team Death Match. Got it. Not what I play RPGs for. Thank You.

Yes exactly, not everyone's cup of tea to be sure. Although I think the end-game pvp is linked somewhat into the rest of the game story wise (not sure I'm just speculating), but any form of instanced pvp will have that team death match feel to it.

Open world pvp (which NW doesn't have) is more "rpg-y", because you can set yourself up as a hero or villian- but that can be really frustrating to people who don't like, or are not used, to pvp.

At present it seems to be an easy way for AFKers to get BoE Glory equipment they can sell for AD......

Well, it's part of a game, as such I guess the "point" would be to have fun. If you don't have fun doing PvP, don't do it, it's hardly mandatory.

Its a test of how much $$ you spent on the game to buy zen to sell for AD to use to buy the best gear.... I mean a test of your skillz, thats it. All about the skill.

I think pvp in this game is pretty interesting, it's less who's "OP" and more who is the more cunning and strategic, if you like strat games there would be no reason to NOT like pvp as it is right now.

I play a cleric and some of you would probably be shocked at how many matches I've placed 1st and 2nd. Fun fun
