A buddy and I have been playing this game for a week now and we have done everything together. we log in at the same time and log off at the same time. Both of us have 0% bonus exp and yet hes 5 bars ahead of me, hes playing a guardian fighter and im playing a great wep fighter. could he be gaining more exp because hes a tank? we also do that pray thing at the same time too. I dont understand why hes gaining so much more then i am.

Does invoking give you both the same amount of experience? Does he use the leadership profession?

just because you do it at the same time does not mean you get the same rewards.

why would some people get more exp for invoking that doesnt seem very balanced...

It sometimes happens. For instance, he may have done racial and/or class quests that you wouldn't have access to. Perhaps he did some side-quests (those little "go talk to so-and-so for 125 xp" add up after a while.) And yes, it's possible the xp award algorithm is weighted differently for a tank than for a dps class. The only ones who know for sure about the latter are the devs, and I'm sure they'll part with that information...when you pry it from their cold, dead fingers. ;) The only other way to try to figure that out is by extensive controlled combat tests with both toons, using a data parser that likely doesn't even exist yet to reverse-deduce the xp curve.

Bottom line: it all comes out pretty even in the end, and when you're both 60, it won't much matter anyway. Cheers!

Because invoking gives random rewards, sometimes you don't get xp and the amount can differ when you do.

just do some extra leadership crafts to catch up if you're that worried about it. if your friend was a level or 2 above you, then i could see a problem.

it is pretty bad when invocations' exp varies.
Open the Launcher. Click Options near the top. Check Disable on-demand patching. This will download another couple of gigs.

Another thing to consider, would be whether they have slotted Azure runes into any utility slots. They will grant an extra few percent experience, starting at 3% for rank 1 runes.

I assume 0% bonus exp means they don't have it slotted. :P

Also, you can be the same level in the Leadership profession, but different tasks give different adventuring EXP also. I have a character that doesn't nothing but invoke and craft, and has gained 7 levels in a week.
