Visuals of the armor

Hay thar,

Been playing this game since 2 weeks, lvl 58 atm. Loving most of the aspects of it, it's been a while since a game got me hooked again. One thing is bothering me though, my character barely changed appearances since lvl 5.

I wield the same 2-handed sword with minor differences in looks, while the cinematic showed a GWF wielding a great 2-handed axe. I don't mind about the sword I guess, but I'd like the armor visuals to really stand out from one set to another.

I've played WoW 6 years-ago and thought the customisation was rather nifty, since every item had a profound look (yes, they did have generics). Now I'm wondering, do things change at 60?

I'd love to see stuff like:

http://media.pcgamer.com/files/2011/02/jarvan1edit.jpg

For me this would provide:
1. I'd probably be more tempted to go for a full set that way
2. I'd recognize armor in game, knowing if someone has it (PVP etc). What level is he, etc.
3. I'd try to get different sets and combine the best looking gear and dye it one color.

Love to hear from you lvl 60's that got some T1 - T2 sets

Cheers!

    Hey,

good point you are mentioning here. I love this game so far (lvl 18) and I am really astouned how much effort the dev team made to design all the systems working in this game. But there is one thing which is bugging me and it is exactly what you say. The customization options like titles, bios, dyes, town clothings etc. are fine, but there are too less graphical assets to make the different characters really stand out. I like the pictures you posted here, that is how armor and weapons need to look like in a game like this.
I think making more distinct assets would have a lot of different advantages:
    - Players feel more epic
    - Players feel more distinct from others
    - Emphasize the individual
    - Recognition of level
    - Recognition of class
    - Recognition of PvP rank
    - Creating a feeling of prestige and competition
    - Differentiate the silhouette of classes for Group Play/PvP (which is kinda hard at the moment in my opinion)

Most of the stuff above you already mention, I just wanted to underline it ;)

I can imagine the dev team is planning on implementing more assets in the future or at least I hope so!
Another point as a notion: The effects of combat are way too blown out I think which makes it veeeery confusing at times. An UI option to reduce effects would be really nice.. :)

    cheers

Wow, those are hideous. I guess that's a point of opinion though, some people like some looks while others hate them.

There is a thread in the wizards forum about showing screen shots of people's looks, some have higher gear.

The looks do get more interesting at 60, and the game is new, so more to come for sure.

While I'm quoting your post, I'd also like to thank the poster above you.

I do agree that favorable armor-looks are somewhat based on opinions, that's why a wide variety would be great.

Thanks for posting the thread, it seems there is some sort of difference between them, they look okay-ish. This game is fantasy, thus I'd like to feel I'm having fantasy armor.

I agree 700% that there needs to be more armor variety in game.

I've noticed that my DC armor changed quite often. i'm not sure why people are stating the opposite. Even my low level Rogue has different armor now (at 22) then he did at Lv 19.

Get in some dungeon runs. the armor there is different from the green quest stuff.
Open the Launcher. Click Options near the top. Check Disable on-demand patching. This will download another couple of gigs.

Armor for GF changed at something like 20 and 40. Not to mention the green spider armor from Roethe quests.

Epics get pretty good graphics too. I think the current armor looks are fine. Crappy armor is boring looking, no problem there.

Lol, not a native here. I wasn't really sure if this word exists. I guess not. ^^ Replaced with 'distinct'.
As for the high level mage screenshots, I think this gear looks better than the lower level gear but I think
it still isn't spectacular enough and has kinda weak silhouettes.

You mean the language comprised entirely of words we 'half-inched' from every other language and very slightly changed and random HAMSTER we made up? XD

on topic, have you seen the state of mage armor, long hair sticks through the back of the collar for crying out loud, people expect that kind stuff to be fixed..hell not even in alpha, it should be checked against all models and modified if need be when the darn thing is designed.

I find the armor pictures in the OP awful. In my head DnD has always been more on the realistic side when it comes to armor, so for my tastes even the current end game armor is mostly too "epic". But of course there is no correct taste when it comes to stuff like this. What bothers me more is the apparent lack of customization compared to their previous games, namely city of heroes and champions online.

Fair enough! I have to admit that I don't have the biggest knowledge of all the D&D lore. I'm a fan of this game though ;).

I prefer realistic looking armor. Not like in Wow where for example is ridiculous looking shoulders on everyone

Ok, so the way most of the armor works in this game from what I can tell is: from 1-40 you get 1 armor set for green and white items, it will always have some variation of the same set, whether it be shoulder pads loincloths or extra bits and bobs. At 20, you will notice that the loincloth bits will show up more often.

At 40-60, it will switch to an entirely new set of armor, and again the same thing will take place with variations.

Blue armor will for the most part, be unique looking from the standard green armor, and purple armor will as well.

Well that's quite sucky. I like armour variation, not having the same armour for 40 levels. I keep going "ooo new armour. I wonder what this looks like. Oh... same thing as last time" >.> they really dropped the ball here.
