I've only played one MMO before, DDO, although I've been playing it for 7 years. Whenever there is a chest in DDO, each individual gets a short list of randomly spawned loot; usually an item of some sort, a potion, some gold, etc. In a raid, everybody gets their loot list with a chance for a named raid item, to be looted or put up for roll at the looter's discretion. But everyone gets their own personal list of loot in every single chest.
Here in Neverwinter, I understand the need/greed/pass options on randomly dropped items. But I've seen several chests after the quest ends where one or two people get to look inside, and then it becomes inactive for me, or I've looked and there is maybe a small amount of coin or an enhancement or potion. This may seem like a silly question, but how does the looting system work for the end chest? Is it just one list of items for the entire group to split and the first person or two just takes whatever is in it? Or does everyone get their own list as well? Or something else entirely? Any help would be appreciated.
There are two kinds of chests. The 'reward' type chests, each player has their own loot - so when you popped it and saw some coins and potions, that was your own individual loot.
Then there are environment chests (this includes resource nodes) which are first-come first-served. IMO, these shouldn't even exist in an instance, as it rewards people for running ahead like lemmings.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev
During the dungeon delves event the golden chest is active to all players, the chests that you plant in some dungeons remain active to all players also, (Each get there own loot list) and the rest of the chests should be active to everyone.
As far as im aware. Everyone should be able to take their turn looting any chest. Ive looted the static ones after others have. But from my own observations, you cant take your turn while someone is still actively looking in the box. And it takes a few moments after that for the chest to reset.
