The Most Annoying Mechanic of the Game

Your character automatically dismounts from his horse when he:
1) Invokes his God
2) Grabs an item from the floor
3) Switches maps

4) Uses a potion
5) Other situations not worth to mention (like using a power)

You can use a potion in PVP, therefore I'm fine with that mechanic. The first 3 items only happen when you are traveling or in PVE. Why the hell do I need to dismount from my horse in those situations? It's just plain annoying!

That being said, what, really, is the point of a mount mechanic?

Guild wars 2 had a far larger world and got away without such a chestnut.
DDO had a bigger city and felt no need for mounts.
WoW has uninterrupted-by-loading-screens large continents so it makes sense there.

Sorry, but what mechanical advantages does a mount system provides other than an aesthetically varied out of combat sprint function?

The pace of movement in this game is hideously slow. Do not undervalue the out of combat additional speed.

Basically this. While it is certainly not needed it does end up being a nice time-saver.

Don't think they should allow different speed mounts in PvP though, but that is another issue.

i find this a bit annoying as well, but considering it takes a second to remount i deally don't mind. though i wish i could use ranged powers from a mount, which would be helpful when horsing around and trying to avoid encounters. also, i wish horses were a bit faster, they seem too slow now :(

If you could use powers mounted it would change PVP drastically. It would be pointless to move through the arena without a horse (Ultima Online, anyone?).

My horse is the standard one that you can buy for 5 Gold Pieces, which is somewhat slow (still, better than simply walking). I've seem some people running pretty fast with special mounts and +movement gear.

mounts are very nice actually. Some of the outdoor zones, going back to camp after doing a quest, mounted really cuts time off the trip. But their biggest purpose is the time honored concept of charging players a ton for fancy graphical models.

#3 is the only one that bothers me. Swapping zones should not dismount you. Invocation? Its more than praying, its a ritual, probably best not conducted from the back of an animal. Picking stuff off the ground? Ever tried to do that on a horse? If you are not an olympic gymnast, you will be getting off the animal. The rest of it is minor stuff that makes me wonder why you are doing it on horseback anyway. On top of that they were nice enough to make mounting instant (many games delay it by 5 seconds or so) so dismounting is instantly fixed by tapping a key.

How about control wizards being OP in pvp because of being able to completely lock down an opponent and their abilities being off of cooldown, so they can just recycle them, and the fact that there is NO diminishing returns on crowd control in pvp? That is the most annoying to me, hands down.

Remember when MMO players weren't super duper lazy and entitled?
I miss the days when you had to actually TRY.

And who prays to their god on a horse? You want to get SMITED?

Let's try to invalidate my complaint by talking about realism in a fantasy MMORPG based on Forgotten Realms.

Then we will invalidate your point by saying your claims are miniscule and you sound lazy.

LOL best response to a flamer I have ever seen!

Separate in your mind the two concepts of "realism" (a boring world like unto our own) and "logical" (a world where things make sense, even if not realistic). A fireball or healing spell make sense in the game, they are "logical". Being able to pick stuff up off the ground from the back of a warhorse is illogical; he would need either elastic arms (not part of the current racial traits) or a magical device (possible but not implemented).

I politely suggest giving progress quest a try, its a great game and does not have mounts.

Lovely crafted argument that circumvents a pointless language debate.

"Rational" and "Consistent" were also acceptable answers.

Whats the point? People like to collect mounts, so its one more income source for a F2P game.
