How I would have done the Foundry...

I would have done the foundry so that it was completely separated from the main campaign. You create a character to do Foundry content or you create a character to do the official campaign.

Doing it that way it wouldn't matter who advances fast through XP grind quests. It would have had no bearing whatsoever on anything but the foundry character.

In terms of the exploit quests, who cares. If foundry was separated from the core game, if someone exploits their way to max level or max gear, it means they simply run out of character progression that much sooner and at that point, all the foundry would serve them for is story content.

By tying Foundry and core game together, Cryptic has created the very problem they seek to avoid. Foundry will be used to create and utilize content that represents the path of least resistance. No matter what sort of nerfs Cryptic tries to enforce, people will seek and find ways around them. It will always be their path of least resistance.

If they want Foundry to be about storytelling, and not just an alternative easy mode for leveling and gear grinding, then they need to remove access to it from within the core game...

Furthermore, by separating core game from foundry, things like persistant world and alternate campaigns can be opened up without endangering the flow of the core game.

From my perspective, the only ones who would be against this would be those who don't want to give up their easy mode. Those who are into Foundry for stories will still play it whether it's accessible from within the core game or via foundry-only character.

Just my two coppers' worth.

    This is a good solution.

I play mainly official content to level up. But still I want to play foundry lore quests for fun with my main character. You wanna discriminate me?

Above that, for me (and I'm sure for other players too) Foundry is source of lore, stories, fun and joy. Not XP. I have played only one full-combat map (The Arena or so), but even there was a Guard with some atmosphere-building dialog you could name a "lore".

Farm maps? Grinding maps? Good for those who play MMOs to see who has... longer sword.

If cryptic were about to entirely separate main story and foundry into two games - I'd probably stopped playing NW at all

I see your point. How about this. Playing the content would be permitted with a main core game character, but XP and item payouts would be disabled. If you are playing for the sake of lore, XP and loot would not be missed.

Creating an alt character designated for Foundry would only allow Foundry play and XP/loot payouts from Foundry. NO access to the core game.

There is no perfect solution to the issues that have recently been exposed relating to the Foundry and Cryptic's intent for it. But what I suggest is a workable one...
