GWF Gear help (DPS build)

yes i know and understand the concept of tank/dps hybrid, but, i'm gunning for a more dps build with it, and so far, my feats and powers are working out VERY awsomely :), but, gear wise, since about...late 20's, i've seen ALOT more tank gear than anything else, and any dps gear is slowly getting harder to find. now, i'm not focusing solely on the "Power" stat, but, i do imagine keeping it relatively high is a good idea, but, besides stacking more crit, i'm not entirely sure what i can do about my gear, and figired, someone out there, who's either done all the maths, or taken the time to play with various builds might have an idea.

i don't tend to make my guy a tank, ever, but, i am lost, not knowing v4 very well, and still figuring out neverwinter.

    So far I am only in the 30s but it seems like we GWFs do not feel any role in PvP at all. We do lackluster damage even with a full DPS build and we have to get in melee range to put out less then half the CC that a CW does.

    I keep getting frustrated when leveling as doing quests goes by slowly and when I pvp I see CWs and TRs doing my job only better. Im going to attempt to hit 60 and see if the grass really is greener on the other side but as of now it needs to be on a whole new level of green atm.

    i agree with this im level 36 in pvp i can tickle people a little thats about it , we dont have a dodge we have a run so people can CC and hit u no matter what
    PvE no one want to do dungeons with me bcuz they dont want a GWF wich make leveling even slower.
    our Dps is garbage which is disapointing as we are a so called striker class

    i don't know....i'm 40 atm, and i found in dugeons i was consistantly 2nd or 3rd for dps, and i was right behind the person above me, i mean, close enough to slap them in the *** to let them know that, yeah, i'm here, ya better speed up. and that's even with HAMSTER gear. i just need a little help figuring it out, and would like to see more dps gear drop, ESPECIALLY more dps drops, it's rediculous how LITTLE gear i change every level, or 2....which btw, is usually about 2-3 pieces, for just BARELY an upgrade, and no, nothing of my own level, still -_-

    We are not a striker class. The problem is we are a defender, but our tank abilities are subpar, which makes our non-striker damage seem lack luster as well.

    However; the leveling should not be difficult. I log in for an hour a night during the week. This week I've gotten one level an hour which seems about the same as my CW.

    People are going to link some D&D wiki that says GWFs are Defenders as always :/

    well that is the offical wiki and it says we are a striker class

    Level 60 GWF with 10k GS here. To answer all the questions in the thread in short: GWF is an AoE damage class, it cannot tank at all, besides his unstoppable tab power he is quite squishy. He has good single target burst but bad single target sustained damage. GWF can be viable in PvP but is destroyed by all other classes at the moment due to their unbalanced skills in pvp. Leveling a GWF is very painful, you might find tank gear or some with weird stats, I would suggest just wear the newest highest level gear you have until you hit 60 then start to focus on the stats. Try to keep your weapon updated as much as you can with as high as damage as you can, that will make leveling a little bit easier.

    Stats kinda depend on your type of DPS build. Not a lot of min/max math has been done for required power, crit, armor pen, and recovery numbers required. You shouldn't ignore any of these stats for the sake of boosting a single one. However, if you have a high amount of crit severity then you might tend to tweak more crit chance. If you focus more on encounter powers for damage or to build up action points then you might want more recovery. If you feel that you aren't hitting other players or mobs hard enough due to gear they wear then you might want more armor pen. Focusing power is primarily for if you think your sustained DPS is lacking.

    Don't sacrifice your defensive stats for the sake of straight damage though, cause you might be called to AE tank adds or survive long enough to put forth the damage needed.

    hmm, there's actually some good advice here, from a couple people, some good food for thought too, good thing i like to play with builds and make my own :) but, good advice.
