I'm Thaumaturge spec at 60 because:
    • AoE 15% mitigation debuff with COI.
    • Snap Freeze means 20% increased damage on Chill Strike/Ice Knife
    • Far Spell gives you some extra range on MM and CS.
    • Tempest Magic grants 10% more damage to targets below 30% (currently bugged with Tieflings).
    • Elemental Empowerment adds 30% weapon damage to cold attack and a 10% defense debuff to Arcane attacks.
    • Transcended Master, along with Snap Freeze, turns Icy Rays into a single-target power house in PvP.

I looked at Renegade and was not impressed outside of Reaper's Touch, which you can get as Thaumaturge spec.
    • Nightmare Wizardry only adds like 1% extra damage overall 0.30 (30% crit chance) x .20 (20% proc) x 0.1 (~10% combat advantage bonus) = ~1% extra damage for a 5 point investment.
    • Phantasmal Destruction, 15% extra crit damage with Combat Advantage up doesn't add a whole lot of extra damage.
    • Masterful Arcane is about the only Feat I wish I could have from the Renegade tree just because RoE is awesomesauce.
    • Chaos Magic procs are entirely too unreliable, if it were just the mitigation debuff like CoI in Thaumaturge I'd be all over it.

I'm going renegade with focus on crit and ice abilities (since there is a feat that, with chilling presence, you get +5% chance on crits with ice spells) - so yeah, I also have all the crit feats. But I'm not sure if it's the most effective, definitely a strategy though.

That is why I also use chilling cloud (ice at will w/aoe on 3rd hit) and have the energy recovery feat - but now I'm reconsidering since 25% chance to heal on the 3rd hit is a little weak, and usually requires a lot of adds to work well. They should boost this feat.

I would really like to have some other option to heal myself though, at least in the level 58 dungeon I felt like I needed more healing (and there was no cleric in the group).

There are so many buggy traits in both trees it doesn't really matter at this point.

If you want damage, you want Thaumaturgy.
