Simple question, I was wondering if you could change their looks and whatnot? This was great fun for me in STO, and I'd be very disappointed if it weren't allowed for companions of the appropriate type (e.g. maybe not customizing animals and the like, but instead just the more normal humanoids). Sorry if it has already been asked and answered, I couldn't find anything on it.
Each companion has a few different skins. Look at the bottom of the companion stat screen and you will see the dropdown menu. They unlock as you level them up.
I think they have new skins as they level or as you level...

Anyone know what skin options the dire wolf has? Is it just slight color variations or do we have interesting options like a celestial wolf or whatever?

Awww, so they're not going to let us customize companions in-depth? It's gonna be like SW:ToR, except companions are without personality. That is a huge negative for me, IMO. I love my companions in RPG's. I either need to have good customization options, or they need to be hand-crafted with personalities (the former being exemplified in Icewind Dale and STO, the latter being exemplified in Baldur's Gate and other Bioware games such as Kotor, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age). Totally sad now ):

From what I've seen the vast majority of NW companions are animals and floating animated objects (blades, shields, rocks). Basically much more like pets than companions in TOR or other RPGs. There's only 5 or 6 human(ish) companions listed on the wiki, and 4 of those are "white" and likely not much use later in the game.

You can buy the other companions at the merchant you talk to during that quest. As of right now they all stop at level 15, until they get the tomes added in to upgrade the companion.
