Greetings, I have been leveling a Guardian Fighter since the 27th and been playing it regularily, I have done quite a few dungeons, some were easy, some were tough. In general tanking groups goes fairly easy, I focus on the big ones while taking out little mobs, it's all fairly managable as long as I keep my enemies marked and aggroed. the tough parts so far were Lair of the Mad Dragon and Grey Wolf Den, specifically Chartillifax and Ethraniev Marrowslake respectively.
I have tried to do some research and looking around on forums, and I need clarification, what is the purpose of the tank in fights like Chartillifax and Marrowslake, am I supposed to just tank the boss, or am I supposed to help with the adds? it feels like whenever I try to help out with adds it only becomes more troublesome to keep up my Guardmeter, so I have not done that during those fights.
I have also read some suggestions that tanks should leave the boss alone and just tank the adds while the rogue dpses and "tanks" it. what is the official strategy, what has worked best for the more experienced Guardian Fighters? No doubt there's some other people who are wondering the same, so I am just throwing the question out there.
well i just did mad dragon this morning, 4 attempts and what we worked out is me as GF agro the dragon and take him aside, rest of the ppl kill trash, then dps dragon. at 40% when the large devil boss spawns with trash, i'd break off dragon and tank him while we ignored all the other trash, once the devil was down, i went back on dragon.
i think as GF your job is to control the boss, and whatever ads you can handle. be mindfull you are not helping if what you agro can't be safely killed cus of boss aoes, then your better off just focusing on boss.

Your job will vary based on the encounter mechanics and the make up of your group. There is no one straight answer for you to always fall back on, you will have to do some evaluation. In a given fight, it may be best for you to simply hold the bosses attention while others deal with the adds, while in others it may be better for you to keep adds off the cleric while another class holds the attention of the boss. If you want to be an average tank, then just hold the bosses attention. If you want to be a good tank, evaluate the situation and talk to your group so people understand who is supposed to be doing what.

ok thanks for the responses. starting to think keeping aggro off the cleric isnt a bad idea for some fights myself so I will play around with that, but as mythrildragon said, doing both the boss and adds does not help for tanking as well as the aoe the dps will have to deal with so I guess I need to pick one or the other during the fight as it goes on. Just was hoping if there are some guardian fighters with some epic experience who can shed light on this as well?
