Guardian 'Mark' ability mechanics?

Hey, so I've read that the Guardian's mark is removed when the Guardian is hit by any attack which deals damage to their HP. The skill description only makes mention of the mark being removed when the Guardian uses a non-guarding (shield up) ability. Is this still the case? Is it a bug?

I was also hoping for clarification on how the mark is applied and any general information on how the mark mechanic operates as I'm still trying to decide on a main.

Many thanks lovely people :)

So far, I hit "Tab" until I see the blue mark icon appear on the enemy and only use Guard strikes from that point on. If you're in the middle of a swing when you hit tab, the mark will only stay up for a second and vanish again. It's a pain to get the hang of.

If I understand you correctly, the mark disappears as soon as you don't have your shield up, thus if you cast without the shield up it disappears immediately? Also (to save me checking) am I correct in assuming that the mark ability has a cooldown and can only be applied to one target? Any idea if hp-damage removes the mark?

    Thanks :)

I'm pretty sure once you have marked something it lasts for ~30 seconds or until they hit you for damage. Meaning, if you sidestep their attack or block it, the mark remains. I tried it yesterday to test mechanics, but I was solo at the time, I am not sure if the taunt mechanism last forever if your teammates deal a lot of damage.

*edit* to cllarify: I am pretty sure you don't have to hold up your shield, but that's generally how you avoid getting hit.

I am kind of disapointed with our class mechanic TBH compared to the other classes, I would like to see this as more of a passive and give us some kind of damage aspect since our output is pretty bad

Edit: or combine the effect into an attack as a debuff with the same effects that lasts for like 5-10 sec or something

What i do is shield bash first then apply the mark. Put my shield up and stab through it.. once your shield is broken or brought down, or you attack without the shield up, or get damaged, the mark will dissapear. Really annoying... i hardly use mark anymore unless theres a boss on my casters...

Yikes... Certainly sounds dodgy. Would prefer it either as a permanent effect (of with a duration longer than the cool-down) that doesn't get removed at all and lets you cause more agro. Thanks for the info guys.

This is how the GF's Tab ability works.

When you apply a mark, either through the Tab ability or any abilities that apply it (Threatening Rush, Enforced Threat), you also apply the GF's debuff (blue-looking icon).

Marks in general get removed when the marked target(s) deal damage to the player that applied it.

You DO NOT have to keep your shield up to maintain the marks, as long as they haven't deal any damage to you.
Looking at the tooltip: "Guarded attacks do not remove your Mark," this DOES NOT mean using guarded attacks. It means guarding against attacks or blocking.

Attacking, from either you or party members, does not remove the mark. Only when the mob deals damage to the player that applied the mark.

EDIT: I'm going to further test the Mark mechanic in general, I could be wrong that the mark is only removed when dealing damage to the person who applied it and it could possibly be removed when it deals damage to anyone. Though, I'm pretty sure it works the way I explained it, but doesn't hurt to test it out.

Ah! If it works the way you say, then that makes it far more agreeable! Many thanks! :D

Prior to level 34, I think, the Mark mechanic can be a real headache. Thankfully you really only need to tank one or two mobs in a pack and can manage that with just taunt, damage and positioning. Keeping marks up is more or less icing on the cake.

When you get Threatened Rush, which is probably one of the best tanking/melee abilities of all time... for real... ride the lightning yo... the Mark mechanic becomes really simple to keep up on large packs combined with Cleave and Frontline Surge. You'll eventually build up an ability and feat package that will mash large groups into a corner and keep them there.

Pretty sure they have to deal damage to you. I mark players I'm not fighting in PvP, and the mark seems to stay up the full duration (unless they come over and poke me).
