conflicting reports: Wipe after open beta or no

I had always assumed there would be a character wipe after Beta, but a friend of mine said there wasn't (and seeing people spend real money on the game already kind of validates that)

So, wipe after beta or will our characters survie?

Thanks,
-Eolorn

I'd like to know this as well. An official response would be great.

No, no wipe after open beta. See the Extended FAQ

This is not an open beta. It is a soft release. The minute the cash shop opens up, it nullifies any possibility for a "release" wipe.

It's too bad. The game already needs a restart.

    There is no wipe.

    (Not your fault, OP)

This is why Cryptic was incredibly moronic to call this open beta. This same question has been raised dozens of times in the forums and thousands of times in game.

    This is the release.

(And now will come a bunch of people telling me it's not release, it's open beta. Whatever...)

Any 'conflicting reports' you're getting are outright trolls.

It's generally observed that MMOs do not wipe anything after closed beta, especially when cash to in-game currency and items (ie: item malls, subscriptions, etc.) has already begun. Open beta is, more or less, a partial or full release meant to stress test the servers and make sure it is going to run smoothly with a large population; the greater majority of bugs and exploits should have been fixed during closed beta and earlier. I've only ever seen wipes within the first few days of open betas, when major, game breaking, exploits have been found; otherwise, it's usually just rolled back or dealt with on a per-user basis.

I hope they offer a free respec at release. I just took my paragon path last night, and I picked it because it was the only one available, not necessarily because it would have been my no.1 choice.

I would hate to see a different option be there at launch that I would have prefered had I seen it and find myself forking out to swap.

Paragon respecs are "free", they only cost AD. The power respecs cost Zen.

Most P2P MMO's wipe after closed beta or open beta if they offer such a thing. Examples are WoW, SC2, GW2, etc.

Most F2P MMO's release the game under a 'beta' or 'open beta' to allow people to play the game and for the company to receive an income. Perfect World Entertainment is under this type.

Also the Extended FAQ had the answer to this question.
Open the Launcher. Click Options near the top. Check Disable on-demand patching. This will download another couple of gigs.

Back in the day, the "open Beta" did have a wipe before release.

The problem with NWB "open Beta" is the cash shop. Once the cash shop is open, it is not "open beta" it is a release.

Beta is a test of the game. The Open just mean it is open to everyone vs Closed which are limited to selected few (usually invites)

Yup they only call it open beta so thet can get away with the bugs they missed. No account wipes coming.
