Request: Option to turn off Auto Targeting

Hiya, I'm having a bit of a problem, the first character I played was a Guardian and I loved the 'Auto Targeting' feature, but today I decided to try a Cleric. Oh boy! The auto targeting system for ranged classes is extremely 'motion sickness' inducing.

I've had to stop playing because it's making me feel dizzy and sick. So I'd like to request an option to turn it off, or at the very least, make it work the same way as it does for melee fighters, in that the character turns to target an enemy and not the camera.

Thanks muchly.

How come I'm level 45 and don't know what he is talking about?

There's an auto-targetting system? You mean, holding Ctrl? Forgive me, but I don't know what you are talking about :(

If you were mid-cast when a mob teleported, you will turn around and face them and finish casting.
At least that's what I think he means because unless I have reticule on the mob, I can't hit squat so it cannot be he means tab-target type system.

Sorry, I should have explained it better. When you're using an 'At-Will' ability and you hold the mouse button down to keep attacking, when your first target dies, you will automatically target and attack the next enemy.

For melee fighters, this is brilliant! I just hold down the right mouse button and my character turns around and bashes everything in range (the camera doesn't move, only the character moves). But for the cleric (and I'm guessing Wizards too) if I hold down the right mouse button, it's the camera that swings and turns to target the next enemy, not the character.

This makes me feel very dizzy, because I'm constantly fighting the camera and losing control of it in big fights. If auto targeting just worked the same way it does for melee fighters it'd be perfect, but baring that, an option to turn it off would be most welcome.

    Hope that makes sense.

I play a rogue and a DC - Never noticed this. When a mob dies, I move the mouse and hover over the next one :/ Sorry, but have another bump, and good luck!

I know exactly what you mean, Klixan, I noticed it too when I made a Control Wizard, when I got that frost beam spell. Didn't happen with Magic Missile, but it did with the second at-will ability. Like, while I'm casting another spell at an enemy, I can turn my camera during the animation, game won't fight me. Same goes with magic missile. But the other one? No dice, camera loves to auto-center.

you will love even more on higher lvls instances when you want to put seals on several mobs at once but the auto target doesn't alow and you keep put astral seal on the same mob because the game sais so until you decide to stop attacking and run near the mob you want to put the seal on... ;)
Also when you want to heal a teammate and he is in constant movement, this makes your camera rotating on the same direction where he runs and if you are healing a TR, have fun with his jumps and teleports, i often feel my head near to blow lol!

Zeke Sparks, the game's Lead Designer, indicated in an interview last month that they were aware of the targeting limitations for certain classes, particularly the cleric. He also mentioned they were kicking around a few alternate targeting scenarios, but had nothing firm so far as an ETA. So they're aware of it, but no telling how long it may take to implement or if this new system will be available only to clerics or other classes (like the wizard) as well. Stay tuned.

I agree with the OP. As a wizard, i find this really annoying. Yes at times it's a nice feature to have and it does make life easier but sometimes it's just plain annoying. Last night did the Mad Lair Dungeon or whatever it is called (the one with the big green dragon). The dragon was so big that I couldn't target the adds near it without going near those. Even if i turn the screen and start attacking, my char keeps on auto locking to the dragon and attacking it :(

Waiting for a cool sig T.T

My bad, Magic Missile also does this auto-focus thing. Argh. And yeah, I've been noticing that difficulty in targeting the mob I want, too. If a smaller mob is near a bigger one, game tends to want me to attack the bigger one, even if I want to polish off his buddies first.

Good to hear that they're looking into it, thanks.

why not just have the option turn off the targeting system altogether? "if targeting marker is red, attack will hit that target, if not it won't", like vindictus or tera.
