Last time i checked, the cleric in our 4e group was running around with hammer and shield.
The holy symbol dont have to be "wielded" in order to use cleric powers... beats me why there is no option to play a melee cleric as i allways liked that about clerics in dnd.

NEver played 4e but is your cleric in your campaign a Devoted Cleric?
That are not two different classes, only "starting kits" so to say. well, but guess thats just like what they did with the warrior, making two classes out of the skill choices presented.

Limitations with the cryptic game engine, maybe?
...Or maybe the same reason why i'm staring at a gnoll, thats hanging out with human bandits, instead of eating them....

I never said anything about 2 different clerics, just that there were 2 different clerics. One speced for one thing and one another way. Still the same cleric class.
Glannigan, Son of Flannigan, Son of Hannigan, Son of Annigan, So of Mar!!!!
By my Grandfathers balls I do not approve of this!
Gary Gygax is rolling over in his grave....
Dunno what you want me to say. The Devoted Cleric in 4e uses a holy symbol. Not a mace and shield. Not really much more to say to people other than "Read up" on the edition this game is based off of.
Though if -that- is enough to get Gygax spinning in his grave we need to hook his dead butt up to a generator with the stuff oll over the internet. Infinite Energy!

Great Weapon Fighter tanks? Who are you kidding? Cleric tanks. They draw -all- the aggro.

But as far as i can tell by looking in to my phb1 the powers are the ones used by the cleric ingame.
I know there are 2 clerics in the PHB1. The Battle Cleric and the Devoted.
