At the moment, per hit damage, and overall DPS, the rogue is far superior, at least at lower levels. Not sure how they stand later.

At 45 now and rogues till beat out GWF, CW is ahead as well with aoe from GWF. Sadly, GWF is just very gimp. At least I'm not next to the tank/healer anymore with damage but its still a good notch below the other two. Perhaps later they can actually be on par.
GWF level 60 (Beholder) - The pains of leveling!
Cleric level 5X (Dragon) - Holy goblin so much easier!

At 60 with gear GWF takes the lead in most groups, when played right. The right build and gear set-up is very important. They don't have the single target of rogues or wizards, but their aoe on the smaller adds is amazing for most fights.

Basic strat is to get a GF or CW to pull all the adds to one spot, then the GWF cleaves through them like warm butter. They have their uses, just not early game. You will start seeing more damage when you get max level.

GWF has a harder leveling time, but they overpower everything at end game.

My god please stop with this "best and worst" class bull****. Rogue is not the best class and GWF is not the worst. The thing is, what you want to do with your class?

You want to **** that boss really hard? So take a rogue (yea, here it IS the best class).
You want to heal and supp? Take Cleric
You want to never die? Take GF
You want CC the masses? Take Mage
You want that ****ing heavy AOE to smash all these creeps away? Take GWF

The point why all say the GWF is so weak is because they all want to do a rogue clone. The GWF is NOT made for single target damage. He is not and with the current skills he will never be. And thats why the GWF is weaker than other classes until at least 25.

    But really...in Helm

    EDIT
Wow...forum cut my post...i dont write it again nvm...

GWF owns at all levels. did a ton of pvp at lvl 15 and took 1st place 7 times in a row. Beat ouyt rogues every match. 10 kills 0 deaths, most dmg by 10k. all day every day.

Have seen Damage built GF's out damage the hell out of rogues and GWF end game. So yeah there is no real reason why the GWF suddenly gets better end game like everyone says. They don't get any new abilities past level 40 that are game changing, there gear is not better than any other classes gear. I think ppl say they get better is because they have an easy time going through the world laughing at high numbers of weak mobs that can't hurt them, but still might be able to swarm and kill a rogue.

A great sword should do more damage in a single hit than a dagger. That is why 2 handed builds work in pen and paper. The rogue should be better damage when sneak attacking, and maybe even better over time damage overall, but the fact remains.. You're swinging a huge piece of steel around, and doing about half the damage that little dude over there is doing with his tiny dagger every time you hit. Which makes no sense at all.

Yes, the argument could be made that the rogue is striking at vital areas... Of which, zombies have none by the way... The GWF is swinging through them, even in full plate armor, that's going to do a lot of damage. It just doesn't make any sense at all for there to be such a huge difference in single target damage per attack.

Now, if the rogue swung both daggers in each click, that I could see doing the same, or slightly better.

Well, it depends on what your playstyle is, op.

Do you like to run in and attack things straight on, with wide aoe attacks?
If so, your class is Great Weapon Fighter

Do you like to attack from behind, or unnoticed,
and let someone else take the brunt of the mobs attacks, while you try not to take damage?
If so, then your class is Trickster Rogue

Both classes have completely different playstyles, especially in midlevels where it becomes more noticeable.

Some pretty obvious trolls and/or Rogue alts here:

So an AOE-focussed class with lower DPS beats a single target class with higher DPS in PvP? Guess it could happen if the enemy team just stands AFK clumped up in front of you.

Never seen a GWF come top in any PvP and mine is level 42 now - they are usually near the bottom. Please post videos - begin first or second EVERY TIME means that this should be easy for you, right?

ROFL. Seriously - if you want to postpone the time when the Devs inevitably boost other classes then at least try to make these comments somewhat believable, okay?

Your still losing trying 100% harder. Roll a rogue.

After playing around with AOE some more, and putting points into the AOE skills, I have come to the conclusion that.. While it would still be more realistic to have the GWF do more per click on the single target skill than the rogue does... and have the rogue's far superior attack speed more than make up the difference... if you play it as an AOE class instead of spamming left click when you're surrounded, the GWF works much better.

So yeah, it all comes down to play style. What do YOU want to do? Sneak in, stab people in the back, and hope they die before you do? Or run in, smacking everyone at once and hoping they all die before you do?
