Want a founders pack, trying to justify it.

I personally never had issues with Cryptic/PWE but I see it all the time on forums that they are sketchy companies..

However, I really like Neverwinter. It's a very fun game with a nice design on the combat and the foundry is truly special.

These two facts lead me to a conflict on weither or not to buy the 200 dollar founders pack.

The only way I can justify to myself on dropping 200 dollars on the game is finding out a couple of different things about the history of PWE and Cryptic, which I think only players of their games could really tell me.

1) Do they keep up with content updates? Patches like new raids or dungeons, gear and whatnot?
2) Customer service ? Are they any good at this? I really see mixed reviews on this issue everywhere I read, and would just love a straight answer.
3) Are they consistant in their development paths? ex: Did they ever promise something in a game but break that promise and never delivered?

Maybe I'll think of more questions and just update this post but until then, I really apperiate you guys replying.

Also, suggestions on weither or not I should even get it is also apperiated.

Thanks!

Go to STO or Champions online and ask in their forums .
I like what they have done in STO , so I bought the founders here .
Asking here you will get too many people just upset . This is a new game , and everyone wants it to be just like their last game . I like how this game has different combat , that's why I'm here and not there .

Why does it have to be the $200 pack, why not the $60?

The $60, to me, was where the value was at. The $200 was for people real passionate about the game, or with to much money.

If you live in Sweden expect it to cost more than $200. Gotta add VAT which some people around here fail to do!

On a more serious note, if you find $200 to be to much of a gamble there's always the $60 Guardian as that also gets you a mount and a companion.

As far as the companies themselves go I have no experience with them. Neverwinter is my first Cryptic/PW game.

I did it this way - do you think you'll play the game for a year? Well consider most new That's $17/month to play. If you play it for 2 years, it's more like $8 a month. Considering most new games cost $50 or %60, it drops the cost off even more.

Look at it this way, you're supporting programmers who make a game you really like :)

Most of the items you get in the $60 and $200 founders packs are useless anyway, and definitely not worth the price.. You're more likely to save money if you buy a less amount of zen separately, strictly for the items you want.

    GP ( 60 bucks ) vs HotN ( 200 bucks )
    GP better mount all toons
    companion ... same
    HotN 1 more character slot
HotN bag of lesser holder for all characters .. I like this even though someday my main will want all 24 slot bags .
rest of stuff is a wash except ...
HotN VIP ... this will be a huge advantage when they add new content or have events . Even in STO years after launch , there are Q's for events and new content . Shure 95% of the time anyone can get in right away . But when the new stuff is added , its nice to not have to rush home to get in the Q to play with your friends .

I wouldnt say that, a tier 3 mount is what $30-$40 on the zen store? A Rank 3 companion is another 30ish? and thats only for 1 character, so with a founder pack it would have a value of 30 x # of characters you make. The diamonds form the guardian pack will net at least $12 in zen, 2.50 for 1 extra slot (based on 2/$5) and a $6 respec token, So at the very least the $60 pack is worth it.

The guardian pack has the best value out of all the packs. The Starter Pack is kinda worthless.

Here's what I have come up with as the reasons one could possibly want to purchase something:

    1) You want to support this gaming company
    2) You like the game enough to pay $200 dollars for it
    3) You want to convey your superiority over everyone on the interweb via pixels on a screen
    4) Money is not an issue for you in real life

If you do not fall into one of those 4 categories, I suggest you do not pay a penny for this game.

I got the $60 founders pack and think it is pretty good value.

Consider that you get a Rank 3 mount which is already $30-$40 worth, and a purple striker companion (which would be $30 PER CHARACTER otherwise) for every character you make and at least $12 worth of AD (probably going to be more like $25 I am guessing once the Founders burn through their AD stockpiles) and an extra character slot on top of that. The starting weapon is also nice also particularly if you feel like playing a weaker starting class (*cough* GWF *cough*) where it makes a huge difference.

By comparison the $200 pack only adds a few additional things of note:

    (1) An extra 1.4million AD so $28-$56.
    (2) An extra 2 character slots worth $5.
    (3) An extra twelve slot bag per character.
    (4) Guaranteed access before anyone else which is occasionally going to be nice.
    (5) An epic weapon at 60 which is nice but likely to be outdated relatively quickly.
    (6) Cosmetics such as Menzo Drow Elf, Spider Mount and Panther companion whose worth very much depends on you taste.

So for me the Guardian pack at $60 was clearly a good deal whereas its much harder to make a case for the Hero Pack at least in terms of tangibles at $200. At $100 I would probably have got it, but an extra $100 for cosmetics is for me a bit much. If you really like begin a Menzo Drow Elf and having a spider mount/panther companion/founder title then it might worth it for you.

Don't bother. For $60 worth of Zen, you can get much more than the $200 pack offers, and with the 500 AD to a single Zen exchange ratio...

Get the $60 one - free horse for each char actually makes it worth it by itself! I can't justify $200, but $60 is okay.

Hyperbole is invading this thread. The minimum value for all the items in the $200 pack is around $100: $28 worth of Zen, mount worth $30, 2 character slots worth $5, companion worth $30-$40, and a bag (per character) that is worth $6 (per character). And miscellaneous extras - check out my earlier post.

Thing is, though, that you get most of the good stuff in the lower price $60 pack. So a good alternative is to buy that and get some ZEN now with any spare cash. Transfer the ZEN to AD as the market is now flooded (temporarily with AD from all the Founders starting packs), and then when the market rate almost certainly stabilizes at a much lower AD:ZEN value you will make a lot of ZEN.

I'll be getting the $60 pack, I feel the amount for what is given is justifiable. I honestly don't think any game is worth $200 unless they're going to give me the source code.

Whatever you do, don't look at Champions as an example of what Cryptic does with their games. It's been pretty much abandoned at this point.

They take care of Star Trek because they have NBC or whoever to answer to. I suspect it'll be the same for Neverwinter, since they'll have Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast to answer to.

    Champions fails all your qualifiers.

    1. They have not kept up with content updates. They released one expansion months after release. That was the only expansion. They added one end-game lair. That was the only end-game lair they ever added (on top of what was already there for end-game). They added a few long story arcs, but they stopped those years ago (or whereabouts). Their current MO is temporary events that we get like one every few months. The only new content that is added is lockboxes and a couple costume items here or there.

    2. Customer service... forget about it. You have to contact PWE customer service, because Champs has none. But, PWE customer service has been good to me, personally.

    3. So many things promised, and deserted. So many things.

All that said though, I wouldn't discourage you from getting the Founder's pack. I find it very worthwhile, and I don't think Cryptic/PWE will be allowed to let this IP flounder and stagnate like they did Champions (an IP that Cryptic owns).

The companion is worthless and bugged. Check multiple threads. The bag is the cheapest available on the Zen store and replaced quickly. At the current exchange rate, 2 mil diamonds is also worthless. The only good thing in that pack is the q priority, and its not worth $200.

Actually the AI for all the Companions isn't great but my Dire Wolf has worked well for me, so I assume they will fix the Panther issue if there really is one for many people

The extra bag will ensure that you have enough backpack space to get to 60, and finally I used the 500:1 AD:ZEN rate in my calculation which is the very minimum those AD are going to be worth no matter what.

So even excluding the companion, AND under the worst possible scenario your original comment that the $60 will get you more is wrong.

Disclaimer: I got the $60 as i felt it was by far the best value.
