Does Power count for more than pure damage?

I replaced one of my daggers for another which gave me another 34 damage, but 54 less power. Power apparently gives significantly less than damage. Why did my attacking/healing stat on the character sheet lower by 121? My visible damage on mobs has also dropped.

Power affects damage and healing. Mouse over the stat on your character and the tool tip will explain what the stat affects in detail.

For a weapon more damage is better generally, but it does depend alittle on power, if one is a similar damage (i would think something within maybe 5 to 10%) but has more power that would be better. Power is a more accumalative thing over all equipement and the sat you will likely go for most times, but with a weapon and increase in damage can out weigh that.

Thank you both for the quick replies. I'm just stumped as to why 34 pure weapon damage contributes far less to the damage stat than 54 power. That would be that Power would be almost 1:1 with damage which seems far off....
