Normally i'm not a huge forum goer. Not a huge fan of the massive amounts of QQ but i see a lot of potential in this game and i felt like saying nothing wouldn't help it succeed. So i write this in the off chance other people read it and agree or the right eyes at Cryptic give this a once over. Anyhoo lets get started.

I want to start off by saying i understand this is beta. More things are to come. I am however disappointed at the number of classes available. As a ranged player i think i (And others) just tend to feel this much more. From what i understand the ranger class is in development but for the time being i have basically one option for ranged which kinda stinks.

I will say however i really dig the control wizard. Even though we are supposed to a "Control" class i feel very volatile. If there is one thing Cryptic has succeeded in is making all of my abilities have impact. When i throw out the ice shard and it slams against my enemy i feel that impact and it's really satisfying. Using arcane mastery to force push a group of enemies across the room hasn't gotten old yet. I love my personal spell animations and effects. A+ on that front. Although in combat animation i've encountered a few quirks. When dodging gets involved things become less fluid. I find small delays before or after dodging that feel a little odd to me. I think it has to do with animations finishing but it still comes off as a tinge bizarre that i can't rattle off my control spell after i've dodged.

I also really like the crafting system. It's relaxed but involved. I LOVE how how they set up the gateway. I like that it passively happens but requires a little thought in how you want to accomplish crafting. I dig it.

One system i have mixed reviews on so far is the companion system. Leveling my companion up doesn't seem to do much.... i think the only reason why is because i've found my companion to be absolutely useless. Granted i'm only level 20 but his AI just doesn't seem to be up to par. I've actually ended up turning him off. I like the idea of having companions and from what i can tell there seems a lot to choose from. I just hope their AI and usability gets fleshed out a bit more.

One random thing i NEED to point out however is i've turned Dialogue complete OFF. The town chatter from NPCs is absurdly high. I couldn't idle near an NPC without hearing the same line of dialogue 100 times. Which sucks because stuff like that totally adds ambiance which the game exudes. In this case however it detracts immensely. All that needs to be done is stop the looping. Only have them play the soundbit the first time i run up to them. Haha. Sorry. Rant over :P

As for the actual dungeons themselves..... The overland content is okay. Very standard. The dungeons are more fun to me personally. It's a more personal experience. You get to take your time and explore. You don't have to worry that some baddies are going to spawn on top of face. Fighting baddies is fun due to the visceral combat provided. The only misstep in dungeons to me is the bosses. It zooms in on a big baddie. Here i think.... i'm in for a fight! In the end however it basically just takes a little bit more time to take them down than regular guys. Attack - Dodge - Attack - Dodge. This works fine for regular combat. On bosses however... i want that risk of death. So far i havn't encountered that yet. Maybe this changes at higher levels? I'm no sure. That's just my experience so far.

The last bit i'm going to touch on is gear. I looked the exact same for 20 levels. To me in a loot genre that's totally unacceptable. I got so excited every time i picked up a new "Wizard" robe only to find out it literally looks EXACTLY like my level 1 started robe. Not even a color swap. (Yes i know dyes). I'm also slighted at the fact that i have a choice of 1 type of weapon. Hopefully they decided to add more implements for classes because the single weapon option right now feels crummy.

In all i really dig the game. The good part is the core mechanics of the game work well. The combination of At-Will, Encounter, and Daily spells mixes really well with MMOs. Using my abilities feel great and when i take on more than i can chew and wipe them out it's intensely satisfying. I think with a little more time in the oven this game will be great. I'm gonna keep playing i just really hope you can find a way to address the points i've brought up. Other than that.... great job cryptic. I dig it.

I notice the delay between dodge animation and the skill usage afterward as well, third person shooter doesn't even have that. I don't think we should either it really takes away the moment. You just dodge a huge skill and now you want to spam the HAMSTER out of your skill but you can't, even if it is less than a second; it is still time wasted.

I agree, gear shouldn't look the same from 1 to 60, they don't have to look fancy; but they shouldn't look the same. even college freshmen can come up with better gear design. Cryptic shouldn't be lazy like that.

I dig the game too, I'm just not sure what is the end game? just 5 man dungeon and foundry?

    Agree.

Nothing will be done about it. Hence cosmetics in the ZEN Store are their source of income.

If you want diversity, you need to spend RL cash otherwise enjoy being a clone of thousands others.

    (Sad but true)

I have done the same. They don't even need to really stop the looping.. Just increase the frequency. So say every 5 minutes instead of every 30 seconds. This was pointed out during beta weekends but nothing seems to have changed. I imagine the devs had more important things to focus on at the time but I hope it's something they address at some point.

Sorry for adding on to this instead of making my own thread, it wont let me post new threads for some reason and I don't have time to troubleshoot it right now.

Anyways, adding to the argument about a lack of classes, I've always tried to make a paladin as my main character in any mmo i play. I know that they already have cleric as a heavy armor wearing religious class, but you also have two different fighter classes to choose from so i don't think that should be a problem. Also, i would like to have multiple weapon choices for each class (ie wizards using staves) but in the event that this doesn't change, i hope you will make paladins (if they are added) able to use greatswords and such like great weapon fighters do, because i noticed that every class uses their own unique weapon, but i cant imagine a paladin using anything other than a greatsword, greataxe, or a warhammer. (maybe sword and board as well)

Another complaint i have is the explorability of the game world. Technically you can go to all these places that are connected, but going to any zone transfer point will allow you to teleport anywhere on the map. This takes away from a lot of the continuity of exploring and traveling and makes it feel very disjointed (in my opinion). I would like to see, at the very least, specific gates leading to specific zones. for example, if you wanted to get to the tower district from the protector's enclave, there would be only one gate that will lead there, another would lead to blacklake district, etc. The current interface could be used in a seperate quick travel feature that costs a small price for each travel, allowing you to quick travel to areas that you have already explored.

In previous cryptic games I've noticed a very easy to use and non restrictive appearance customization system (the tailor). Ive noticed that cryptic/pw is taking a different approach this time, with "appearance changing" for each individual armor piece. While i don't mind this new system, what i really dislike is that it costs astral diamonds to change an item's appearance...NO...make it as it was in champions, a small fee IN STANDARD GAME CURRENCY (not zen or astral diamonds) to change an armor piece's appearance.

i know it's a long shot that this will actually make it into the game, but it would be very nice to see different starting zones to quest in, either by choice, depending on your chosen background, or depending on your race/class. Leveling up alts ends up being rather repetitive without this.

once again I'd like to stress that i REALLY want to play a paladin...i love that class xD
