I've seen so many Jarlaxles, Drizzts, and every version of Baenre you can imagine so far. Not to mention all the Bruenors, and 50 other famous dwarven names. Some people lack imagination, some can't be bothered to spend 5 minutes thinking of a unique name. But, I'd rather see all those names, a hundred times over, than names like PlayaKilla or Noobslayer or Eatmysword, etc. NWO is infested with them unfortunately....
Strangely enough, it's almost always the pvpers with those names. Go figure.

Ragnar was a fairly common name long before that show. Would not be surprised if many of the Ragnars you see running around have never watched it.
I had a shadow dragon named Ragnor in my D&D campaigns but a player of mine came up with it so I can't really be blamed. Also, I've seen about a dozen dwarves named Thorin, and I am pretty sure one was an NPC put there by the devs as an Easter Egg or something.

I'm shocked I don't see more Robb Stark and Jon Snow's running around seeing as you can actually have direwolves (yes I know, not technically the same kind) as pets.

What god damned show are you guys talking about? I had a guy in Warhammer named Ragnvaldr (the original spelling/pronunciation of Ragnar) and now you're all making me feel guilty. What show?

Vikings. It's a History channel show, which is odd, but it would fit right in on HBO next to Game of Thrones. I honestly don't like it that much, only watched the first 3 or 4 episodes and only because I had nothing else to do at the time. A lot of people love it though.

It starts out kind of slow, I'll admit. I wasn't all that engaged in it myself until a few episodes in, when they actually start fleshing out characters more, like Floki. I love that lanky ******* now. The show ramps up and gets more interesting, the more you watch it.
As for names, I've seen a lot of Ragnar myself, though to be fair; it has always been a popular fantasy name. I've also seen Benji Stark, Drizzt and his nemesis Artemis, as well as most of the others thrown about in this thread. It happens in every game, but it does seems particularly bad here.
I feel bad naming my Dwarf Baenr now. I didn't know it was a popular name lol. I just adjusted a randomed name.
Curse you NWO.

Petition the History channel then. As for them, people who lack imagination tend to go for the pop culture and what is cool today. I loved Cowboy Bebop back in my days, I never named any of my characters Spike. Not even Ken Bato or Motoko Kusanagi.

I've already seen plenty of Danerys, someone else saw Arya and I saw one person named Targeryan. I haven't been playing for more than a few hours they're out there.
I named my Rogue Artie. Thought about naming him Artemis Entrerie but I was afraid there'd be hundreds of others. lol
I've seen two with the name of Drizzt's nemesis, yes.
Personally, I am a TR elf named Meldroth Wytdrow. (Wytdrow is a reference to his ruthless, drow-like vigilantism. But he's a good guy. Chaotic Neutral leaning Good.)
I came up with Meldroth a couple of years ago when I was trying to create a char name that wasn't already taken.
Roth.
Elroth.
Eldroth.
Meldroth! Success!
I ended up liking it a lot, so I've used it in a few MMOs.

I'm bad at picking names. I use ones I hear but more obscure ones. For example my name here is from something. I've also used the name Il Duce in the past and no it has nothing to do with Mussolini......One day ill get Teddy KGB if I'm fast enough ..it always seems to be taken.

I've take Baenre as my last name. I also have a unique first name, I know you said "some people lack imagination", but like most I have gone pretty in-depth with my characters name and story/background.
I don't support players that have chosen the name Drizzts or other lore characters from D&D. Because they try to mimic those characters in a roleplay environment. Which fails mind you since no one can take them seriously. I choose to have a Baenre name because I am a fan of the house and I've always roleplayed as one. Not as a lore figure but as a character I've made myself.
