Do i really only get this item from booster packs at random ? if thats the case i hope this game gets some things looked at. I shouldnt have to spend real cash just to get an item that might have an item i need to craft. This is also at low level.
You don't "need" to buy the bag of gems to craft.
The component you need to craft drops from those arcana/thievery/dungeoneering etc nodes as all crafting components do.
They are moderately rare drops. But they are there.
The "Bag of Gems" exists so that those who want to spend Zen to skip the grind are able to do so. Conveniently, converting the bag of gems to a rare component also grants a big chunk of XP, bigger than anything else you could craft.
Pay to Win? Pay to Speed it up? Convienience item? Kind of a gray area as some people would argue that since you can get all the components in game without paying its fair.

You misunderstand...you actually need an item called "Bag of gems" to craft some items. These do not drop in game. The original poster is correct.

No you don't. As the person you quoted was saying, the recipes the bag of gems are used in are convenience recipes. You can get the same items through other recipes and as random loot from resource nodes and mobs. Basically a bag of gems is a bonus item found in the packs that converts to extra exp and resources, it's not really a "crafting" recipe.

ok, this is all confusing now. The tool tip ingame says that "bag of gems" is found in booster packs....where is your information coming from and why isn't that in the tool tip?
OP is correct, there is at least one recipe in tailoring which calls for "Bag of Gems" as an ingredient. It does NOT say "Open the bag of gems to complete this recipe", it ASKS for a Weaver + Bag of Gems & when it is complete, the reward is 20 Wool Scraps, 1 Residum & 50 xp. The other recipe that I have so far calls for a Weaver + Bag of Gems & grants 8 Wool Cloth bolts, 2 Residum & 50 xp. The recipes are called, "Wool Scraps Trading" and "Wool Cloth Trading" and are available at level 3. If I attempt to craft either of those recipes, I am told that I am missing a component, namely "Bag of Gems". Now, it's possible that the rewards are gained from the weaver opening the bag of gems, but it has to be used in it's pristine state in the recipe.
I understand what Aztazia & Drumdrum are saying though; that the items GAINED by using the recipe are able to be found in the world & they are correct. It seems as though the Bag of Gems is just a speedier way to gain what you can gain yourself either by using the kits or using your own recipes to create the items. So the Bag of Gems is NOT a necessary crafting component, but if you have one then you get some good rewards when you use it.
Hopefully that helps lessen your confusion a little bit.

Hi
Some of the mailsmithing recepies also demand "bag of gems". Not that I care much, I will use other recepies to level up.
I figured all the professions (except leadership, but then again who knows?) would have similar recipes to the tailoring one, but right now I'm just leveling tailoring. Gotta keep my CW in pants, y'know!
Hi all. Can anyone tell me if the bag of gems and the bag of jewels are items that you can only use once?
I mean when you use them one time you need to get another or you can use 1 bag of gems/jewels forever? Thank you.

Well, it's actually even better than that - the items granted by the bag of gems (20 wool, 20 iron, 20 hides, etc) are all able to be gathered via crafting, but only 2 at a time. The bag of gems is purely just a speed-up. It's a bonus if you happen to get one in a box, that's it. (And the residuum, you can get 10+ of them every five days from Celestial coins, so that's not a "omg, can't get it" thing either.)
edit: seriously, there is nothing "rare" or unobtainable about the Bag Of Gems recipes.
Example, from Mailsmithing:
Gather Iron Ore - Prospector - Gains 2 Iron Ore in 10 minutes
Iron Ore Trading - Prospector + Bag of Gems - Gains 20 Iron Ore + 1 Residuum in 10 seconds
Residuum isn't rare, and the Iron Ore is the exact same thing you can get from the basic "Gather" task. It's just faster. Ditto for all the other Bag of Gems "Trading" tasks - they're basic material recipes, just faster.
