I'm only somewhat familiar with D&D. I've played Baldurs Gate and the Icewind Dales etc, but I have only limited exposure to 4e and only some to 3.5.
To me the Barbarian would give more flavor to the class choices, visually and thematically. Now it seems that there would be little reason to add in the class down the road as it's too similar to Greatweapon Warrior.
The only reason I can think of on the surface is that it seems to really only fit 2-3 races. Humans, Half-orcs and maybe Half Elves? The idea of a greatweapon dwarf is admittedly cooler than a dwarf barbarian.
But I could make that case for other classes, i.e a Half-Orc Cleric.
It is a bit weird because the main reason to use a 2h fighter instead of a barbarian would be the ability choices and main stats. The barbarian had its first appearance in primal power though as far as I remember and I guess they will tie the "main" barbarian class closer to "nature related" skills. (only a wild guess)
Regarding the fact that you can't customize your class anyways (armor and feat choices) this is a valid question though.
Ha ha I'm not saying there is anything wrong with GW Warrior, in fact it's cool. But it seems just somewhat like a knight that uses no shield.
I feel like the Barbarian would give them game a great variation. It would be like having Control Wizard, and Elemental Wizard rather than say Control Wizard and Druid.

Barbarian is a PHB2 class. If they follow their current path they will release PHB1 classes then move onto Player's Handbook #2.

If they wanted to keep it to the core books they could have also gone 2 weapon Fighter and Warlord.

But based on PHB there should be no Drow ever and Half Orc shouldn't be released yet.
Interesting but compelling point - I had no idea. What are some of the other PHB1 classes? I'm assuming Ranger, but any hope of a Druid?
